Mason Bennett 23 & Tom Lawrence 25 arrested and charged with drink driving after crashing their vehicles on the A6 in Derby late on Tuesday night..

Range Rover Sport (Lawrence)  & Mercedes GLC (Bennett)  - bad news for them and their struggling club.

Same incident or two separate ones?

Ok, so when does Diedhiou take the fall for this & get banned for being nowhere near the incident? At the very least the FA must ban him for 23 games for having been in Derby in the last 3 months! Guilty by association & all that!

On a serious note, I hope they throw the book at both of them but fully expect them to get a fine that isn’t in line with their vast salaries & a ban that won’t really matter because they’ll just employ drivers! Unlikely that they will of learnt anything from this.

The Derby County captain Richard Keogh was injured in the car collision on Tuesday night that saw his teammates Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence charged with drink-driving, Telegraph Sport has learned.

It is expected that Phillip Cocu will confirm the news that Keogh has a suspected fractured wrist and also injured his knee when the Derby head coach holds his weekly press briefing at lunchtime.

Whoops. It’s bad enough when misguided youngsters do this sort of thing, but the 33 year old club captain was with them, allowing it to happen!

It’s now being reported that Keogh is out for the season with the knee injury! What were they thinking?

I’m fairly certain Keogh was packed off by GJ a for his drinking habits with Nobes..

Mason Bennett attended a Drinkaware event on the same day.

Derby have deleted the page detailing this from their website, but if you Google "Mason Bennett Drinkaware" you will see the page existed.

Oh yeh, it was certainly there, Google cache....

Nothing more on it though but pretty embarrasing considering he was representing thier community trust. Idiots.

Edit: They've just posted this...

Shame their fines will be paltry and they won't get banged up, if Keogh is out for the season he may learn something from the incident - I doubt it though. Just order a taxi FFS (or a limo in their case). Trouble with people who are so far from reality is they think they can do whatever they want with no consequences and luckily they never injured an innocent person caught up in it.

Oh! how I got slated for the booze culture, well here you go proof that there is a huge price to pay, could be career ending for Keogh.

WTF? You have been slating Derby players for their drinking culture??

Derby county statement

As a club, we cannot, and do not, condone the actions of a small group of players on Tuesday evening.

The players were out as part of a scheduled team-building dinner with staff and while the majority of them acted responsibly and left at around 8pm and were not involved, a small group, including the team captain Richard Keogh, continued drinking into the night. They should have known when to stop and also ignored the opportunity to be driven home using cars laid on by the club, and chose to stay out.

As a result of an alcohol-related incident, Richard Keogh has sustained a serious knee injury that will prevent him from playing until the end of the season.

The players involved in the incident on Tuesday evening will be subject to a rigorous internal investigation under the club’s code of conduct and disciplinary procedures, but over and above any punishment they receive we will be expecting them to become involved with the excellent work the Community Trust does helping the communities we serve.

We have been very clear about our attitude towards alcohol and the players know that at certain and specific times of the season they are permitted a drink together as a group in a controlled environment.

Those involved in Tuesday’s incident know they will pay a heavy price for their actions, but also that we will support them with their rehabilitation back into the squad and team.

We fully support the work of our partners at Drinkaware and the unsanctioned actions of this small group of players is totally at odds the stance that both Drinkaware and Derby County Football Club take regards alcohol. We will be using this situation to redouble our efforts in highlighting the dangers posed by alcohol.

We would also like to thank the emergency services for their swift help.

At 33 you'd think that was the end of Keoghs Derby career.  It's lucky nobody got killed or suffered more serious injuries.

Contracted till 20/21 so if they can't offload him then they're stuck with him for another year

They could sack him but no doubt the PFA will defend him to the hilt.

Yes, of course... Some footballers drink driving and crashing their car is exactly the same as some innocent football fans being illegally detained whilst definitely not under the influence of alcohol.

Wonder where Keough stands on the making an insurance claim?

He’s a third party so completely entitled to do so

The amount of the claim may be hampered by the fact that he got into a car driven by somebody over the drink / drive limit , certainly if he was aware or suspected

My thoughts exactly. Personally i'd be tempted to sack all 3 given the circumstances but that just wouldn't be allowed would it.

And possibly not wearing a seatbelt? Surely insurance wouldn’t cover him if he was doing something illegal, just getting into a car with a drunk driver would be enough wouldn’t it?
