Went for my first proper run today after having failed a few times so far this year. Having struggled to 2 miles the last few attempts, managed to hit 4 miles today so a step in the right direction!

Also just ordered this... https://freetrain.co.uk/

Anyone else use it? I find armbands are uncomfortable, either too tight but if I loosen it at all it just moves around. All the reviews on this look good, just hope it fits!

Quite sad but I use a bumbag to keep my phone in when running! Works for me. . .

I’m shamelessly bumping this.

Now we’re in a position with gyms closed and pretty much any socialising banned, one thing that is allowed - and even encouraged - is running, while still keeping the appropriate distance.

In the next few months it’s going to be vital  for us all to get out and about as and when we can for our mental well-being so join the Strava club (whether you’re an everyday runner or just need something to help you focus) and push on with your fellow reds

I'm guessing most people's running clubs are on hold so our OTIB group's virtual club could come in handy. Maybe we can organise an OTIB run in April/May, all virtually of course (we'll probably be just going around the block 100 times by then!)

What do we think about running with others? I'm joining a mate on sunday but thinking I'll stay a metre apart when running. We can still chat and run that way.

Why don’t we do “The OTIB virtual 10k race”. Do it as handicap - everyone says what their best 10k time is and then the winner is worked based on how close they get to that? Get everyone out in a weekend, easy to track in Strava?

Might start it back up this evening, off my steroids (never been happier to get off immune suppressants!)

Take it steady brother, I'm sure it'll be sweet relief to be back out there.

A week of sunshine too. I'm sure our OTIB clan will be clocking up the miles.

Just discovered this thread.  I’ve been running for thirty plus years but never to a great standard.  These days I’m chuffed to get under 60 mins for a 10k and 28 for 5k.

Running is now on hold as I’m in the “shielding” category for the current crisis, having had a kidney transplant (courtesy of my wonderful wife) in 2013.

I’ve ordered a turbo trainer for my bike which will hopefully partially fulfill my cardiovascular fitness. ?

Has everyone else seen a big increase in runners? Seeing more and more every run now. Lets hope they keep it up once this is all over.

Yep, undoubtedly. It’s a mix of people who are gym bunnies and those who haven’t run before and are in a real mish-mash of gear - I’m talking 20 year old tops, non running daps and Ill fitting shorts. No problem with that, we’ve all been there, and fair play to them!

Was hoping to crack out a 10km before month end but managed to rip the verruca off the bottom of my foot when getting in shower (was being treated) and somewhat ended up with lots of blood and a rather big hole!  Hopefully the last injury for a while..

Sounds like a Lee Peacock style injury! Seriously though hope it's OK and you can get out on the roads soon

Additional - I really need to look at some better shoes. Anyone got any suggestions - finding it hard to consider buying when cant try

I’ve just bought a pair of these and they’re bloomin ace! My old New Balance ones really had bitten the dust after about 500km

Bad timing at the moment! I went to my local running shoe shop in Wilts and were really helpful, let me try on about 30 pairs after they did my gait analysis etc!

Found Asics fit my feet much better than Brooks or other brands as my feet are slightly wide. Think there's a few specialist running shops in Bristol?

I’ve gone from starting out on Karrimor (boo) then through Adidas ultra boost and am now on my third pair of Brooks. Key difference for me in Brooks is cushioning - it’s not over-cushioned, but you don’t need an insole which I found was needed on other shoes. Tend to replace the shoes quarterly, as they’ve done about 900k by then and Brooks have felt comfortable to the end.

You can also do a virtual gait analysis on their website.

So, yeah, Brooks for me - would recommend the Ghosts primarily.
