I refer you to post #351 sir. Get on the Nike website and enter code NIKE30

Do I need to get them measured before buying. Seen online people recommend going to shops and getting your feet fitted to your shoes, is that to advanced. Hoping to do Manchester Marathon in October so not sure if specialist trainers will be best.

Got up early for the last run of the month today. 11k to take me to 150k for the month. Had loads of rest days though. Bristol was looking beautiful in the early morning sunshine.

Ah bollox!
So after a 3 day rest where I’d be feeling lethargic, went back out this morning, was feeling good, set for a 10k PB, and felt a hamstring tweak at 8k!!
Looks like a few more days rest for me, sadly.

Currently limping home the last 2k!

Bad times mate, take it steady

It’s always better to go to a specialist shop if you can - more so as the wrong trainers can do real damage and you can try before you buy. Feet fitted to shoes does seem a bit extreme for normal runners though - as long as you know your size you should be fine.

In the absence of going to a store and having a proper video gait analysis , what I can recommend is this:

https://www.brooksrunning.com/en_gb/ShoeFinder

It’s the brooks website but that’s not the point. It should tell you what type of shoe you need and you can use that to inform searches elsewhere.

But if your shoes are years old and you’re running that much, you’re definitely due an upgrade!

How long will a pair like that last and how many miles will they do.

If marathon goes ahead in October will they last that long or will I need more by then.

As a guide, I’m on my third pair of Brooks which are specialised running trainers. On average, they last me about 700k which is about 2 1/2 months running. So I’d reckon you would probably need a second pair by the time of the marathon - but the investment is worth it

Well, in addition to today being the 1st of the month which is always psychologically hard (stats reset!), running this am was done in heat and with some of the worst hayfever I think I’ve ever had. No air, eyes stinging even under shades. Happy to hit 12.3k in those circumstances but in no way will I get up to last months total of 320k (adjusted by taking off anything that wasn’t at least jogging pace) if this is anything to go by. Trying to average 10k a day for the year and think it’s about to get very tough!

Looking to get some new running trainers when the shops open up a couple of weeks as I find the gait analysis in person useful and generally prefer it to buying online. Has anyone been to Up & Running just of the Downs as a couple of people have told me that it’s a good place to get running trainers?

I went there for my first pair, found them very useful so didn’t mind paying the extra for the trainers, have since bought the same pair online for cheaper but will probs go back as lost quite a bit of weight since i first went to see if there now might be a better pair for me

Nope I’m looking at emails everyday for the London announcement

I deferred London after the first postponement as i have Bournemouth booked for October,  waiting for that to go the same way. Hard to keep motivated with no events to train for.

I know - i have to start my London training again in the next few weeks knowing full well it will be off. I wish they would just cancel it now and i will just enjoy the cycling over the summer and then look at the Glos marathon in Jan with London in April

Can't see anything going ahead till either the virus has died out or we've got vaccine in place.

Agreed, Great North still not making a decision yet but cant see it happening.

Hoping my ultra might as it will a lot lower key

Completed the IronmanVC 70.3 challenge again last weekend, had forgotten how hard that run is after the bike. Felt so much better on the bike but 6 miles into the run and I was at my limit. Managed to run/walk the rest and get it finished

Out on the bike this week to save my feet/ankles a little, 20 miles on Wednesday and had to run down to the in-laws in the evening which is just over a mile so tested my mile time. Managed 6:32 which isnt a PB but was quite happy for an impromptu run. 15 miles each way to work and back on the bike yesterday and out for a 15 mile run tomorrow. Mrs got me a Naked belt so going to test that but think it might be a bit small, also been given a camelbak which is really useful on the bike but not sure if I want to run with it

There is some absolutely cracking rides around here, i did 80m last sat, took me from yate over to nailsworth, Stroud, tetbury, Wooten basset, grittleton and back in via sodbury.
Pretty much all through country lanes too so was very relaxed

Out for an 8m run tomorrow and maybe a ride on Sunday but won’t be too far. I did a 5k run on wednesay in 28 mins but ran up Horton hill 3 times so it was pretty tough.

Looks like an extended period of rest for me, sadly.
After my hammy tweak last Saturday, I’d rested up all week, not felt any problems, so thought I’d get back out this morning for a gentle one.
Got 200 metres and it went again!! This time it seems a little worse than last week.

Think I might have to write June off!!
100k March, 135k April, 156k May.
I feel like I’ve driven a car from 30mph, to 50mph, and got up to a nice cruising speed of 70mph and now come to a crashing halt!!!

Mate unfortunately we’re getting a bit older - i did my calf 2 years ago 200m in to the  watermore 10k, was out of action for 10 weeks unfortunately. Muscle injuries are a ballache as it just takes time.

My monthly bills now consist of a sports massage once a month, hurts like hell but touch wood I’ve been injury free, not had once since March and i can feel i need one

pleased with this mornings run, 8 miles, nice easy pace done in 1hr 8

Isn't it always the way that you take the high mileage months for granted, then realise how lucky you were when a niggle (or worse) comes along!

I've had about 5 weeks of 'rest' following a sprained ankle and random subsequent medical knee pain and it's so bloody frustrating!

I did 4 miles today, hopefully back to it now depending on how the knee responds.

You'll come back, but it takes patience. Do strengthening whilst you can't run so you can come back stronger.
