Scoring Centre-Backs

Dunkley got his 4th (foot) and 5th (head) of the season as Weimann got his 5th (and also has 2 assists which is good going). We've spread the goals around (a plus) but so little aerial threat from our central defenders. Is it perhaps because we often favour the near post delivery or is it just because they are pretty timid in front of goal (compared to Flint and his win the ball at all costs approach). Evidently, having the additional threat (+ goals) from CB is very desirable. Surely we can improve this, or is it another area where we are frequently outmuscled?

As an aside, our head coach bemoaned our lack of height yesterday, yet Rowe was frequently marking Moore = bonkers. Even when Baker was on him, he outdid the former, which too often happens + gave rise to the first goal. Baker really has problems when players move at set pieces rather than stay static. A very big weakness in his game. Even lost Dunkley for the second.

We don't have the height that we used to have in the team, especially in the defence.

Flint and Webster at 6'5 and 6'2 compared to Moore, Williams and Kalas who are all only 6 ft.

Baker bit bigger at 6'2 but not the same aerial threat.

Height isn't an issue, desire, bravery and timing certainly is. From Steve Bruce to Sergio Ramos, many are around the 6 ft mark but get loads of goals. If you can win headers in your own box, you can win them in the oppositions box.

Height is a huge factor.

A 6 ft defender can have as much desire to win a header as he wants but he will likely be beaten by a CB who can reach 6'7 with a moderate jump.

That's due to a magnitude of reasons, mainly because they're some of the best defenders of all time.

Relevant to this situation and city height is obviously a big factor in CB's scoring goals.

I think you are making excuses for our back line as well as making too many assumptions about height. 6ft is clearly enough to get up and attack the ball.  Rather than go in circles, I'll leave it there.

Talking about height in terms of jumping to head thd ball is hardly making excuses. Just because 6ft is tall for most people doesn't mean it is for a CB and that height becomes irrelevant and 5"inches isn't going to make a differencet. By the same logic a 5'7" forward should be able to get up and attack the ball against our CB's.
