cidered abroad Posted October 30, 2019 Report Share Posted October 30, 2019 As James had said, first season, 1955-56, in Div 2 for nearly thirty years following a record equalling points total of 70, with two for a win and one for a draw. Over sixty goals in 1954-55 season scored by Atyeo and Jimmy Rogers. Local derby v Rovers at over 38,000, visiting sides like Leeds with world class stars such as John Charles. Liverpool in the Second Division. One has to understand the differences from today. Majority of those in the crowd would have been manual workers looking for excitement over the drudgery of dirty factories. Very few women attended then. And that side produced two years of brilliant entertainment. Hardly any seating, about 4,000, and terraces packed. Not much else for working people's entertainment except cinemas. And we had to wait until the next day's Western Daily Press to get midweek away results! A completely different world to now, that many of you would not understand or recognize. In the street that I lived in Filton, only one car owner in the entire street. Plenty of bomb sites in central Bristol. One house in the street with TV and about thirty men and boys jammed into the living room to watch 1953 FA Cup Final Blackpool, with Stan Matthews, against Bolton Wanderers. poland_exile Posted October 31, 2019 Report Share Posted October 31, 2019 I am an attendance and stadium freak / geek, but.... some of my favourite seasons with City was when we were having dismal crowds!
