It's been a joy to behold watching various multi-millionaires having complete meltdowns on twitter over the past couple of days after Labour dared to suggest they may raise tax on the very richest by a couple of percent. Don't worry lads, you'll still be able to afford your expensive accountants that know all the loopholes to ensure that you still end up paying less tax than the rest of us mere mortals.

It's so sad that social media now allows ill educated entitled young men to have a platform to spout their glib drivel.   He should stick to football and perhaps take up reading?    If that's his opinion, thats just fine, but to call someone with a differing point of view a "Thicko", and to not have the intelligence or means to articulate why he holds his opinions, just seems to reflect what an embarassment he is?.    Heres's hoping your goals dry up and you get dropped   Ha!  ?

Which political party is promising to reduce tax for the lower paid? Oh yeah, only the Tories by continually increasing the personal allowance. So basically the fan is a right thicko and Taylor is correct.

Think you'll find that currently every political party is promising to do everything for everyone.

If the Tories have reduced taxes they've done it off the back of massive cuts in services and wages for people like nurses - an now all of a sudden they've decided to promise increases in spending on those services that's even more than Labour promised in 2017. So, either that's a lie (which with Boris in charge is probably an odds on bet) or taxes are not going to keep going down. So perhaps the fan is right and Taylor is a selfish nob.

Some might say that anyone who believes anything that comes out of a Tory mouth is a ‘thicko’ given the long list of lies and false promises they must be blind to...

I kinda see his point.

He works in a very specialised field, and while it's just "kicking a ball around", he's one of only a few thousand people in the world skilled enough to do it at his level. This is why he gets paid 20x more than a nurse or a teacher.

Off-topic, but I've never understood why people consider both professions to be so poorly paid. Sure, at the start of your career it's poor pay, but after a few years the money can pile up when you get more responsibilities. My girlfriend is a teacher and she earns more than me as a software engineer. The same goes for nurses - I know some people in the nursing profession that earn upwards of £50k.

With his skills, he absolutely earns his money, but ultimately I think the lack of empathy for others is pretty standard for young athletes. All they know in life is the lives of other young athletes, or those involved in their chosen sport. Especially nowadays, where many working class people have a distrust of the kind of leftist politics you see from Labour, it's not uncommon for a lot of working-class people to agree with lower taxes for the rich and less help for those in poverty. It's the "self made" belief, and because they've "made it" they deserve the money, while those that didn't....don't.

I don't agree with it at all, and while I think his beliefs should be criticised, he's probably only saying what thousands and thousands of other people genuinely believe.

This is probably a positive experience for the bloke. He thought politics was as simple as 'I'm alright Jack' and he had that view challenged. He probably had to think through whether the greater good is a more important priority.

Increasingly over the last 25-30 years, anyone who believes anything that comes out of any politicians mouth is a "thicko" given the long list of lies and false promises from self serving "career" politicians of all sides.

Exactly. They are all the same, will promise you the moon to get your vote then as soon as they are in will find every excuse under the sun why they cannot deliver, usually blaming ‘the mess the other lot left behind’.

The whole political system, and the voting system in this country, has become a complete farce.

Politicians speaking with authority about what they plan to do, without actually knowing whether they can deliver it or not/and actually not knowing the laws and regulations set in place themselves.

And then the public voting blind, not having any in depth clue as to what they are voting for or whether it's possible.

Both as daft as one another.

No wonder we are up shit creak without a paddle and with the rest of the world laughing at us.

One doesn't need to get political about this, the facts are clearcut.

Firstly, since when did effort and ability correlate to reward? We've had dozens of very high-earners at City who wouldn't have qualified for minimum wage were that the case.

Secondly, the 'fan' appears not to understand the difference between direct and indirect taxation, yet alone the way in which these generate revenue. In case of the latter, which sees all taxed at the same rate and which the 'politics of envy' 'fan' might claim to be unfair, it's  likely Taylor will be spending far more on luxury items than the 'fans' suggested comparators, hence in cash terms he'll contribute more to pay for those comparison services. In respect of direct taxation the 'politics of envy' 'fan' should first note the findings of the latest HMRC review assessing how equitable and sustainable the present tax regime is for our kids and grandkids generations - findings which even they found startling. They were:

48% of adults (known) pay NO income tax

Those between the 49th and 73rd centiles contribute 10%

Those between the 74th and 99th centiles contribute 80%

The top 1% of earners contribute 10%

So the top 1% pay as much to keep services going as do the lowest 73%, with the bulk of us in the middle quarter financing 4/5ths.

The 'fan' also ignores the favourable tax position afforded (for good reason) those on lowest income, the fact they're not assessed on the full value of the state funded assistance they receive, unlike Taylor who'll be taxed on every benefit in kind he receives.

It's for you to decide whether you think that's equitable, but if you conclude those at the top are the 'golden goose' to be squeezed, the reality is they're also those who've least ties and greatest flexibility (as our own benefactor signally highlights.)

The rich always get away with paying their fair share of tax no matter who’s in power. The tax system in this country allows it.

Taxes aside, I wouldn’t vote for Labour because Corbyn, Abbott and McDonell aren’t fit to run a bath, let alone a country.

Also, I’m fed up of a career politician, Corbyn, coming out incessantly about “For the many, not the few”, when he’s amassed a considerable personal fortune making him one of the “few”.

I’m no fan of Boris, but he’s most definitely the lesser of two evils.
