Remember going back to Temple Meads after playing them in the 70’s,I was only a young un’ and just followed a large group of Knowle West lads, anyway it kicked right off, coppers turned up and penned us in,as it must of been around Christmas time because everyone started singing the old John Galley song.                                                      Galleeeey,Galleeeey.                          Galleeeey,Galleeeey.                      He is the king of the West Country.    To the tune of Noel,Noel.                      The Sargent was having none of it and told us we weren’t going anywhere until we sang it properly, cue a rousing rendition of Noel ,Noel.Old school policing in action.

The last game my now ex-wife ever attended.....

She didn’t take well to be hemmed in the corner of the away end, separated from baying Cardiff fans only by a net and a ply wood barrier.

Then again it might’ve been the coins. Or the pies. Or bottles of piss that kept coming.

Or one of our own being sick in front of her at half time....

Me? It was great. Thankfully the boy was born a year or so later and now at the age of 15 he stands next to me. When he’s “allowed” to come ?

I always remember a really old school ambush at the bottom of the Grangetown station steps. Police had surrounded city, but only on the outside of the group and therefor couldn’t get through the group to the steps.

What a day.

Yes. I remember that bit too. Little mobs of Cardiff were trying all along the escort but this one happened. They got their cumuppance tho and were quickly running away back up the narrow stairway, with a number of City in pursuit.

I told you you should have aimed it at the Cardiff fans but you knew best!

Give me old skool football matches any day.
The sterile atmosphere within grounds in the Championship today, (including AG) just does not do it for me. Cardiff away was always a Top 3 away day for me, and there are plenty of stories I could recall on here if I wanted. Some great memories in the old Ninian Park and at AG through the years.

Remember 1 home game in the 80s when Cardiff dismantled the turnstiles going out by the Dolman exit. B Block City came out and all hell let loose. It took the escort nearly 2 hours to get back to TM.
The BBC filmed a City v Cardiff season (home and away) if you what to know more of what went on. It is on YouTube somewhere.

Crazy days.

That home game in the '80's....a hail of coins coming from the away end? Bits of wood n rock being thrown? If so, remember that well :boxing: loved my days in B block, back row.

The old Ashton Gate was a great ground. Vocal support from Dolman A/B block, the enclosure and the East End obviously.
It made AG a fearsome ground for away teams and fans. Great atmosphere in those days. ? Loved it.

The OB had an Operations Room (more of a large garden shed really) between the East End and Grandstand at one time. One day a mate of mine who worked down AG was tidying up the ground after a big game, and there on the wall in the OR was a line of photos the OB of just about every suspect fan in every row in Dolman B block. He pinched the photo of us all and I still have it somewhere.

A&S Police intelligence gathering I think they called it? ????????????????

If I could re live one away day it would be this. Was incredible, got the early train from Taunton. Arrived at Cardiff central to be greeted by 100s of there fans wanting blood! Escort straight to great western pub with was packed with city. The escort to the ground was madness, even kids and women hanging out of windows hurling abuse at us, many attempts to get at us by mobs but police stopped it. Then the que to get in it was just going off all around :) so they just opened the gates and let us in. Went 1-0 down and I hold my hands up I’ve not heard a atmosphere like that! Was incredible. But when them 3 goal in 10 wonderful minutes went in. Not been in an away end like it since!! The walk back to station after game was utter carnage!!!! Great days! Sadly not the same anymore :(

It was absolute madness,I was lucky enough to be at the Mansfield 5-4 as well where it was kicking off in the car park after,as much as I loved the Cardiff win the Mansfield one tops it purely because we were dead and buried, the minibus scenes all the way back were a sight to see ?

Mansfield for me too, absolute dog**** abuse as we were walking out about how we cheated - did they throw the ball into their own stands at 4-4 and ref added 30 seconds more on and we know what happened then. God I miss those days, haven’t been to an anyway game for so long!

Was there, one of the best away days ever. Was sat behind goal in home family area with my Nephew (City) Brother in Law, Cardiff and his dad, Cardiff. When Scotties first goal went in my nephew and i jumped up went mad looked round realised we were the only ones and then sat back down quickly ?. Brother in laws dad said, don't think you should of done that. Anyways his second goal? Yep did exactly the same . What a day. Be happy with a point Sunday tho.

Remember the tv commentator saying it was the most incredible match, comeback, he had ever seen. When they announced incredulously there had been a late late winner I held my breath, cue me jumping around the front room like a mad man, has to be one of our most incredible comebacks ever.

For those that weren't at Mansfield that day, the range of emotions never to be forgotten, especially the injury time winner, the away end went absolutely ballistic, me and a mate fell at least 5 rows of seats celebrating but nobody cared. One of my top 5 games ever, home or away. Sensational scenes!!

That was a great day at NP, I genuinely miss days like that, really raw.  I haven’t watched a City game for 18 months now, last time I was at the Gate it felt like I was in amongst a cricket crowd.

I’m not condoning crowd trouble, but we have gone from one extreme to another, football has become far too sanitised imo.

Agree. Football has changed. Most on here would say progress for the better.

But - Lack of atmosphere, no needle, no passion, OB overkill, pretty mundane stuff IMO nowadays. Will watch it on Sky tomorrow but this was a must attend away day years ago. How times have changed.

Not all bad- Swansea last season quite memorable IIRC? Not condoning the trouble but that edge does add to atmosphere- it can be a bit of a fine line though.

Away? Millwall's usually quite decent I think- took a mate last year, he goes with me to City games periodically and one of the first things he asked when I saw him a while later was "When is Millwall away"? Games in London at night, towards the business end of the season are usually decent!

Took some other mates to the Swansea game- they very much enjoyed the day! Like I say me or them not involved in that world, but the edge perhaps added something.
