North London Red
5 hours ago, Never to the dark side said: Russia's St Petersburg venue might be withdrawn over doping problems Englands path in the quarter finals is VIA Rome/St Petersburg England’s path would only be via St Petersburg in the quarter finals if England finish second in the group and then win the last 16 game in Copenhagen. If England win the group, the path would be Dublin in the last 16 and Rome in the quarter finals. And if England finish third in the group and are one of the four best third place teams, it would be another route again (the exact route would depend on whether England were the best performing of those four qualifying third place teams, or second best, or third best, or fourth best). There are too many permutations at this stage to reliably predict what the route will be, and given England’s largely unhappy history in European Championship knockout games played outside England, I wouldn’t put too much money on England reaching a quarter final in St Petersburg.
