Can't say they didn't have this coming.

They can still attend the Euros, so I'm sure they will be allowed at the WC when it gets closer.

Their up & coming National Sport seems to be election nobbling, they can concentrate on that now they're out of The Cup ;)

I loved that old joke that went something like, thieves last night broke into the Kremlin and stole next months election results.

"under the terms of the sanction Russian athletes can still compete at international events under a ‘neutral banner’ if they are able to prove themselves to be clean. This includes the possibility that a team which does not actually represent a nation competes at the football World Cup for the first time."

Imagine that, then go on to win it.

Who won the world Cup on 2022?

Er... no one?

Er... no one?

How can a team representing no country play in a World Cup? Bonkers.

Are their any other countries under a similar sanction?

Because then you could theoretically have a team of different nationalities all representing their country together?

If it's just Russia then you'd have a team of all Russians competing under the flag of 'not Russia'

Indeed. Representing themselves and nobody else.

That's exactly what currently happens in athletics. Every event where national teams compete, you have a team of 'nuetral athletes' that are all Russian.
