Is KP’s chant offensive?

When the England cricket fans were singing this about Johnny Bairstow (many years before we adopted it) but using the line "I want ginger hair too" instead of dreadlocks like you. Was that also racist? Do you think they viewed Bairstow as a hyper-sexual, well endowed, object of transgressive lust?? Or do you think they just thought it was a bit of a laugh??

I dont understand how this generation has so many snow flakes when they grew up watching south park and family guy

How is singing about someone shagging your wife and wishing you had dreadlocks offensive

I have no issues with it whatsoever, I talk about shagging other peoples wives all the time.

Clearly Section 82 had Mandingo Trope at the forefront of their thinking when they copied the song and made Kasey Palmer’s name fit the words....

Christ on a ******* bike

Bit offensive this.....I'm fairly sure that bikes weren't invented in the BCs!

(This is clearly a whoosh!)

????

Offensive?....what happens when people are offended?......nothing......that's democracy you have a right to be offended and (by definition) will inevitably offend.

It's a sodding football chant - not a political manifesto/statement.

Some white women like black men (and vice versa) - it's the 21st century.....get over it.

Rant over!

It's pretty clear who on this thread immediately thinks of a "hyper-sexual, well endowed, object of transgressive lust" when they hear the KP chant.

Underrated pastiche of a famous phrase.

The irony is amazing when you think about it. The “offended” is actually the most guilty party of all......nobody else has the faintest idea what they are going on about.

What I fear is that the chant reinforces stereotypes present in the Mandingo trope, portraying men of colour as hyper sexual, well-endowed, objects of transgressive lust etc etc.

Do you think Mandingo offended himself then when choosing his Pornstar name?

This thread has descended as I feared. Apologies for any part I played in that, though it does make for depressing reading . I was trying to make a serious point upon which I will attempt to expand.

To be clear - I am not accusing City fans of conscious discrimination or ill-will. such stereotypes are deeply ingrained and subconscious or accepted. But they can and should be called out. Basically a rehashing of the Lukaku Man Utd controversy of a few years back.

This is a serious discussion so hopefully those posting funny gifs, personal insults etc have had their fill and can either reflect on the above or find another thread.

Happy new year.

So what you are insinuating is that the fans that sing this song either knowingly have wives that crave a good seeing to from a well endowed black gentleman or the men themselves have fantasies of a cuckold nature. What a weird thought process. Maybe your misses has begged you for a 3 way with a black man and as you’re not keen on the idea, the Kasey Palmer song upsets you. ?

If Palmer stays beyond the transfer window I think the words to his chant must change. I know the song is sung with good intent, but sadly it reinforces racial stereotypes, tropes and fears about men of colour.

No doubt I will get a few negative emojiis or ‘snowflake’ jibes for this post but hoping some will also like and take action.

Judging by the reactions of your fellow posters in the words of the late great Dick Emery, DAD I GOT IT WRONG AGAIN!!

I suspect it's all quite deliberate.
