Brentford

Recommended Posts

Just admiring them too, set piece master class,  forwards to die for at this level. All on one of the lower wage  budgets. Impressive club considering where they were. Wish they were our "busy bees"

This is what annoys me when Johnson uses the word ‘identity’ every 5 minutes as if it means something.

Brentford have an identity (a bloody good one) and most importantly they’ve recruited players that perfectly suit the identity. It’s a case of when they go up not if.

A shame for them Leeds or WBA show no real sign of let up. But I’d have them easily winning the playoffs whoever they face.

They were generally league 1 and league 2 when I started watching city. Lloyd Owusu was always decent to watch too!

Are they going to be added to that list of Hull, Swansea and Bournemouth of clubs that shot up from the depths of the footy league and get prem before we do ?

Just pleased they weren't fantastic against us and average elsewhere.

Of all the teams we have seen recently, I am most jealous of their fans getting to watch that style of football each week.

I’d be amazed if they’re still a championship side in August.

Leeds and WBA haven't been great lately in what is a very poor division, personally think Brentford will end up in top two

Nice to see Brentford getting some praise on here

When they done us 4 zip the other day It was all about

how bad LJ and his team were

To be fair I thought we did pretty well with 10 men for a fair bit of the game.

QPR scored 11 in their last two games I think and were on fire . Maybe we weren’t quite as bad as we thought against Brentford ? 😳

Oh we were. Let’s face it they could have had 7 or 8 and it wouldn’t have flattered them.

I'd love to see them pip leeds to auto.

On one side I agree, but considering Biesla has only spent 10m , the rest have been loans and also sold like us 30m plus to keep in FFP, I do admire they are doing it correctly and have no parachute payments. It shows what is possible as non parachute teams , like Brentford.

Brentford play the way I'd like us to play - slick, energetic, creative; bucket-loads of shots on target and goals; all backed up by a solid defence.

If only...

(I imagine they'll be just as good in the second half)

QP RIP

Not just about the players though. They have a philosophy right through the club. Something we were told we were getting when Johnson took charge. We’re miles off .

What’s frustrating is that we really did have it for that awesome half a season in 17-18 that then nose dived after we imploded against Wolves.

That was basically the last time I remember us playing half decent football and deserving results.

They have the players to do that. Three of our players would get in their side I reckon. Kalas, Dasilva and Brownhill.

Some of their fans wanted their manager out last season...

Perhaps. Bet he has not had 7 transfer windows and 60 plus players coming and going. What ever view you take on LJ and his staff that is a difficult statistic to grapple with.
Brentford are a proper model to look at   Not the fake words re the wretched pillars And goodness knows what else,

Norwich last season did not spend mega bucks and neither have Brentford  this season.  Oh well

Are you sure? I'm sure they've usually been a decent league 1 or Championship side. I don't ever recall them dropping to the pits. And yes, probably to your prem question!

Agh Brentford, how many more clubs of this size are going to have a crack at the Premier league before us? Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Swansea, Wigan.. the list is endless.

If a club like Brentford can make it to the Prem before us SL needs to be asking some serious questions of himself and his staff. Tiny dilapidated ground, huge competition for fans yet they are ahead of us. Depressing.

Why haven’t we signed players since that play that way. We were great to watch. LJ comes out with excuses saying because we sold certain players our playing style has changed. Absolute bollocks. Plenty of other clubs manage to recruit players that fit their style but not us.

Shows how well we played when down to 10 men. Don't believe they took their foot off the gas at all. I agree with LJs positive reaction to that 50 odd minutes of play by us.

They're a fantastic side. Wish LJ would try and play a similar style of football.

Yes, at the risk of sounding like a sag, it really pisses me off that a "little" club like Brentford can consistently do what we can't !

There's nothing quite like being the biggest team never to hit the prem :( If you take out the AD years (a statistical blip) you'd have to be about 109 to have been alive when City last player in the top tier and probably 115 to remember it. The current oldest person in the world, Kane Tanaka (117) is Japanese and she is unlikely to have caught any city games in the First Division back in the day.

Not exactly.

There is a philosophy within Bristol City. Many of the values are present on the walls of the academy etc. A philosophy applies to method e.g. how we coach.

Lee Johnson stated he was going to create an identity throughout the club. That is how Bristol City play from the academy, U teams to the the XI. That is where he has failed .. And yes City are miles off.

Yeah they fell down to league 2 but got promoted after a couple of seasons. Around the same time GJ managed us.

It is not a style. Styles change frequently. Brentford do not.

They’ve been pretty good under 3 different managers on the trot now. They must be set up with a system that each manager knows and is willing works with.

Definitely and have progressed under each too...have a better balance under Frank than Smith IMO.

4-3-3 seems to be their go to. Think 3-4-3 is/has been a bit of a Plan B but there's no doubt that the modern progressive setup of many modern, progressive sides fits them quite well. LJ could take note!

Keep Maupay and who knows how high they'd be.

He went in the summer to Brighton

I know that, should've worded differently, had they kept Maupay then.

That said, Championship is as it is. Very good side though, quality clear to see. Once a goal and man down, a hammering always quite possible.

In our case, even with 11 it would more than likely still be possible..
