Major Isewater
After two successive la Liga titles and they currently sit at the top of their division. » In a statement, Barca said they had reached an agreement with Valverde to terminate his contract and thanked him "for his professionalism, his commitment, his dedication and his always positive treatment towards all that make up the Barca family". No , not ‘ Job for Cotts ‘ just , are they mad ?

CotswoldRed
They'll never be successful if they sack their managers without giving them a season or two.
Simon bristol
Me and my boy went to the nou camp for a game in october, was a fantastic father and son experience! Valverde seems to be on borrowed time. obviously going forward they are deadly, but apart from pique they are so wide open defensively that it had to be seen to be believed
RoystonFoote'snephew
He'd been there 2.5 years which is about per for the course. Very few head coaches last more than 3 years at Barcelona (or Real Madrid) as the pressure becomes intolerable. I recall Guardiola saying such when he quit before taking his sabbatical. elhombrecito
To be fair, they've not been playing great football at all, and are only really top of La Liga because of everyone else's relative ineptitude. They have the lowest points total for any Winter Champion (leader at half-way stage of the season) ever. But yes, on the face of it, sacking somebody when you are top of the league and still in the Champions League, does seem rather harsh.

LondonBristolian
Glad they've actually sacked him now for his own sake - the last four days of them openly speaking to other candidates without sacking him must have been awful for him. Mr Popodopolous
Always thought Bielsa would be perfect for Barcelona, style wise. Clearly not though...
EnderMB
When you are Barcelona or Real Madrid manager, the results don't matter. Winning is the minimum requirement, but winning and playing world-class football is what is expected. It's strange to anyone outside of Spain, but I guess when the entire history of your league revolves around one of two teams being at the top, the only expectation is to be the better team. Mr Popodopolous
Failed to get the best out of big ticket signings Coutinho and Dembele. Played unusual formations. Bit cautious and even turgid at times- certainly by Barca standards. Two collapses in CL from a 3 goal start- Roma 2018 and Liverpool 2019. Barcelona seem to demand very high standards though. There was room for development as the team was not based on that win at all costs football. The President has employed coaches that look at results first through its structure blocking pathways into the first team. 2018 - 2020 Barcelona have played games with no graduates from their academy in the first team. That in 2010 would have been unthinkable.
