Makes you wonder why we signed him in the first place if we didn't have a system in mind to fit him into.

Johnson likes his 'clubs in the bag' but it makes for a disjointed XI with little understanding of how to play.

Yes, ive lost count of the amount of smaller ball playing midfielders we have on our books.

i think signings are being made with a view to making future profits than how we actually play,,,, and in general theres more chance of profit on a snazzy ball playing attacking midfielder than a defensive blocker.

Unfortunately, WeeLee fails to understand that whilst only 14 may be used during any round/match successful golfers stick with a base set of 11 or 12 clubs throughout a season varying only one or two each tournament depending on course or circumstance. Those varied are infrequently used, specialist tools.

Where WeeLee's analogy holds true is whilst it's only 3 or 4 clubs that hold the key to success they all have to be carried (together with their associated baggage.) Feels to me like we've all been caddying for him for too long.

Of course the other side of the equation being you also need forwards to regularly move into positions in which they can receive the ball? With Flappy seemingly homed to the touchlines and Static occupying his marker's shadow Show Pony would have to be a world beater were he able to bring them into the game (as we've seen he isn't.) We've also several players who are exemplar at being able to hide in plain sight.

Palmer though isn't as bad as some are making out, I recall similar criticism being labelled at Peter Cormack and what does he have on his résumé? In his case we also had excellent midfielders in those key roles of winning ball/enforcement and cover/space fillers and I don't think what we have today are being best deployed under WeeLee to give him his best shot at success. That said, he isn't the first to suffer our managerial limitations.

Who are these people?

Palmer works best in the hole behind the strikers,

you need to tell him not to worry about defending,

peoblem is we haven’t got a defensive midfielder in the squad to make up for this, to play him you need 2 of those, we haven’t got one

We have an attacker who is really good on his day but having to fill in at the back far better than anyone would expect. It's a shame that we would need to cycle in another striker to compensate for moving him back and putting KP in the hole. I wonder where we're getting strikers ... oh.
