Major Isewater
Apart from Nketiah , there haven’t really been any rumours of anybody at all . Normally we have a few names floating about but there isn’t a sniff of a deal being done . Are the players not available or are we holding back for some reason or another ? Meh
Nothing moving anywhere. They should make the Premier and Championship windows 2 weeks and then the whole month for the rest to allow quality loans to feed through. What will happen is loads of movement in last 2 days and quality players stuck in the stands in our league because there was not time to loan them out to leagues 1 and 2. Shit window that is too long !!

Davefevs
Most clubs in the Champ are getting worried about FFP, and finances are tight, even our own. Luckily for us SL won’t play a risky game.

CodeRed
LJ's been told to sell and generate his own funds...........even SL's pocket has it''s limits Over 50 signed.....1st team squad of 37....a big money summer signing from Chelsea not even making the bench and another summer arrival loaned out already. Understandable from SL. Ashton needs to move a few out but clearly hasn't managed to accomplish it yet.....hence the frustration from LJ and his barely concealed annoyance with MA. Up The City!
The problem with transfers is that they mostly all are in a chain. There has been very little movement in the prem and in Europe, we have to wait our turn in the queue and wait for the clubs higher in the chain to make transfers before we can secure our targets. The window needs to be scrapped imo. It's a ridiculous concept.

Silvio Dante
I think the problem is that we’re now fishing in a different pond. So although we’ve got people looking over the fence asking what’s going on at Bristol City, all that really leads to us some more plates spinning while we wait our place at the table. Ultimately, we’re only interested in fantastic humans who are world class at the basics, and people with that DNA we aren’t always at the front of the queue for. So, I think we can understand the lack of movement but we’re continuing to fish hard behind the scenes.

Shit window that is too long !! You've raised a good point, and I'd take it one step further by suggesting the January window should be for loans only. It makes perfect sense, a loan until Summer with a view to buy. By January it is quite clear which players won't feature for their current team and managers know which players they would like to bolster their squads. January should definitely just be for loans. With the fishing though its probably because the bait ain’t good enough.

The changes to the loan rules haven't helped clubs like ours. It leads to teams stockpiling players. I think there needed to be some changes from the days of loaning Stern John and Steven Maierhofer at short notice, but at present it just leaves teams of our level hamstrung in the event of injury. Mr Popodopolous
FFP. Definitely playing a part- clubs are taking it quite seriously now, could it be possible too that they have been briefed that in-season punishments are possible as they originally intended? That tends to focus the mind! Stockpiling, loan rules, chains- all also play a role.
Mr Popodopolous
Take a look at the list of transfers- shame you can't filter, but for Football League. There's a bit of tumbleweed or has been to date! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/50965300 Also there is a piece in the Telegraph which at least in part blames FFP for the quiet window... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/01/22/ffp-ruined-transfer-window/ Couple of pertinent quotes from the article: Quote “It’s a graveyard,” is the description from one leading football agent. Quote Premier League clubs are finding it difficult to find value, while Championship clubs cannot find available players. And there is no doubt over the main reason behind chairman and chief executives keeping their powder dry: Financial Fair Play. Last season Birmingham were deducted nine points for failing to comply with EFL “profitability and sustainability” rules, which asks clubs to keep their losses to £39million over three years. “Clubs want loans,” adds an intermediary at one of England’s leading agencies. “Some ask for swaps. It is all down to FFP and not wanting to overspend on fees or wages. Owners want to spend but they cannot do it. “It’s like spending £200million on a three-bed semi and not being allowed to do any work on it.” Quote Clubs can also be put under a “soft embargo”, meaning they need dispensation from the league to register players. Sheffield Wednesday were subject to a soft embargo last year but others are not always made public. It is all part of a stagnant market in the Championship, with barely a permanent transfer in sight. Quote Clubs chasing promotion are desperate for strikers to fire them to the Premier League but even if they are ready to spend, they have been frustrated. Eddie Nketiah had his pick of clubs when he returned to Arsenal from Leeds, only for Mikel Arteta to keep him at the Emirates. Che Adams is wanted at Elland Road but Southampton are reluctant to let him go. Dwight Gayle, pre-hamstring injury, was only available in a cash deal, while Matej Vydra is needed at Burnley after an injury to Ashley Barnes. Then there is the likes of Glenn Murray at Brighton, with a proven track record who is also valuable to his club off the bench. When investment is made, other clubs are looking closely at whether any rules have been broken in the race to the top flight. “It used to be about getting the best eleven players on the pitch,” adds the agent. “Now it is teams against each other off the pitch.” Clubs are thinking twice about taking on the wages of Premier League youngsters, while Under-23 prospects at top academies are not getting out on loan. Quote Clubs are finding it hard to land their top targets mid-season so are willing to wait until the summer before investing. Even big spenders like Manchester United are now in the loan market. It has filtered down the leagues, with little spending and nowhere for young players to go. “The biggest concern is the quality now compared to where it was a few years ago,” says one agent, with all sides hoping for some action before the window shuts. Well I say quotes, more like extracts!
