Would a Bristol City loan team win league one?

And would you be more interested in watching it?

                                  O'Leary

         Wright       Vyner       Morton      Pring

                           Morell       Walsh

   Adelakun             Szmodics              Semenyo

                                   Taylor

Wollacott, Holden, Hinds, Bakinson, Smith, Nurse, Janneh

I know a couple are injured at the minute. How would that team get on?

Interesting question and my answer would be.... I’ve no idea!

another question is how many of that lot are top-end league one standard.... because they’re the ones we should be making sure there’s first team squad space for next season. I reckon that’s Morrell and O’Leary. Maybe Walsh.

Others not quite there (hopefully some will be in the future).

No, might escape relegation if got no injuries all season

Most of the players would have far more experience by the time they are back in a red shirt. Look at Adelakun and Szmodics now, getting game time at the top end of the league. The defence would let us down no doubt but based on midfield and attack I reckon top 6 easy.

Interesting - but where is Semenyo on loan at the moment?!

Unfortunately for your pedantry the first two sentences are not related to the team I posted.

That doesn't say they're all on loan. It says that team.

So if you are going to try REALLY HARD to pick up on a minor thing. Be right.

I don't think we'd be far off.

If you move Wright to centre back and maybe drop Morton, play Opi Edwards right back maybe.

The team would certainly be up there without injuries and with good manager etc.

The Manager? That’s what it all comes down to - in the transfer forum there’s a thread discussing us as a small club.

Amazing that we could actually field 2 strong teams when we are constantly being outplayed and outpassed and failing 2nd ball!
What a difference a good manager would make!

No, but would they beat The Gas?

Apologies, I assumed you were posting a team of City players who are out on loan at the moment as they are all currently out on loan except Semenyo. I merely pointed out that Semenyo isn’t out on loan at the moment.

I think you thought he was (hence your backtrack above) but if you knew he wasn’t, and you were merely suggesting a team made up of players who had been out on loan at some point during their City careers, but not necessarily right now, then I apologise again.

First off - good idea for a thread, really brings home how many we have out and the relative quality.

As for the team, breaking it down into the areas:

Max - playing for a team in 14th but appears to be pretty much their POTY. Could he be top six L1 currently? Yes, undoubtedly.

Defence - A bit half and half. I think Bailey Wright got unfairly pilloried here towards the end and is certainly lower end champ/top 6 L1 level. Zak has played multiple games in the champ and shone at lower levels, so you’d have to give him a tick. You’re then into Cundy (unproven) and Pring (potential, but again unproven) so the defence looks shaky. Probably mid table overall.

Midfield - Morrell is Lincoln’s main man and is now in the Welsh setup. Walsh is doing good things at top 4 Cov and both have potential to make it at a higher level, while playing well at L1 now. Big tick.

Attacking Mid - I don’t think any of us have seen enough of Szmodics or Adelukan to be definitive here, but it’s noticeable that two top six sides have put them straight in. Football men obviously have the opinion that they belong top level L1, so it is a (qualified) yes

Attack - Matty Taylor has a decent goals to starts ratio for Oxford, scored at that level for Rovers and his lack of pace wouldn’t be as much of a factor. Fit - I’d say yes. Semenyo has a ton of potential but is very much unknown. That’d be a maybe.

Subs - Very little depth and unproven. You’re split there with ones who probably aren’t making it (Holden) and those with chances who have had good reviews at L2 (Bakinson). Think you’d be reliant on the first eleven.

Summary answer: I think the defence would stop that becoming a top two side at that level, but if you could guarantee the eleven were fit every week, definite playoff contention. As a squad, more likely lower mid table.

Again, good thread.

I think this was the team you meant to post ... cos they’re all out on loan ... which is what you meant before including Semenyo and your subsequent back track ...
