Nahki Wells is useless

Worried he wont succeed here after yesterday.

Looked like Johnson brought him on as a midfielder? He clearly didn't understand Johnsons tactics as on several occasions he was tracking back behind korey smith almost playing holding midfielder to try and get involved in the game.

Think could be another weimann situation. Chiselling a striker out of position to try and add more goal threat but actually just adding confusion

Him and Deidhiou won't work.

He likes to play up top with a Palmer or Pato type in behind.

Either that or Weimann alongside him.

Need to pick the best team, not necessarily the best 11 players.

Fam has been outstanding up top on his own. Either stick with that or drop Fam.

Rudolph Hucker had more box entries than Nahki last night. Just saying.

He's going to be completely useless whilst sat on the bench!

Wells and Fam up front.

We also looked more dangerous going forwards when we went to 3 at the back. Yes we conceded a third when playing the 3, but Birmingham always looked like they would nick another.

Yep, Wells is a good signing if we are prepared to completely change how we play and drop Fam.As it stands a completely unnecessary signing that didn’t address the core problem which is our midfield.

The problems in both defence and attack stem from them.

We did, actually, recruit a midfielder who sat on the bench last night in all his Norwegian international glory .

Where does all this ‘Wells plays up front on his own’ come from?

His best seasons at Bradford he played with a big man (Hanson).
At Huddersfield he mostly played in a 2, with varying partners such as Holt, Vaughan, Kachunga, Bunn.
At QPR, in his 26 games this season started up front with Hugill on 11 of them. Other times they played Chair up with him, sometimes he was a 1.

This nonsense that he can only be a 1, is, well, nonsense.

He’s also not the messiah that some seem to expect him to be Harry

Hes decent but I think many assume , Chuck him in and he will score goals .....simples......

Like any player he should have been recruited as part of a thought out plan(s)

But , if we can get him up to speed , possibly the most astute of the three signings in terms of what we are crying out for

You're right, he is a quality player who can tackle and act as a playmaker. I'd start him against Derby, even if he only lasts an hour, because we desperately need a holding midfielder that protects the defence.

Agreed, but I don’t actually think we play with a 2 at present.

Mmmm, your text message last week!!!

Agree re both points that he works best with a partner....not convinced it has to be a traditional target man though.

Hanson of course was (but also suited to the general style of Lg1).

Holt, good back to goal striker, big old unit, too.  The other 3 though, not target men at all.

I think partnerships come in all shapes and sizes.  You do wonder what the plan is for him though. In a perverse kind of way, lady night’s result now gives Lee cart blanche to choose the team he wants, no worrying about “keep a winning side” etc.

Wednesday is key.

Because we haven’t had 2.
Now we do have 2, loads of people are saying “oh, Wells can’t play in a 2”.

Yep. Big man is not essential. The point I wanted to make was that most of Wells’ career, he’s played in a 2.
Whether that be the big man in Hanson, the stronger type of Holt/Hugill/Vaughan or a smaller more mobile type in Kachunga/Bunn.
He’s mostly played in a 2, with a variety of partners.
People saying on here “oh, what’s the point of buying Wells, he can’t play in a 2”, are quite frankly talking out of their be-hinds!

15 games to go. Fam in good form and looking up for it. We should be starting Fam & Wells upfront in a 2 in every single remaining game.
