How did he miss?! I thought he was very good last night but he does seem to score the more difficult chances.

This is Famaral all over and why there remain question marks over his value .

Weimann missed a sitter as well and this is why , in due course, we will try to upgrade them.

The great conundrum because both players bring so much to the team but I suppose if they were that clinical they’d be plying their trade at a higher level.

These are interesting times for City , we are gradually increasing the quality of our squad and the expectations of the supporters , we need to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water mind.

He really has to score the 1 on 1, but I thought his finish for his goal was really well taken. He had a bit of time but buried it. Thought some of his link up play and tracking back was excellent too

Agree he was exceptionally good last night, how much has his first touch and hold up play improved this season??

Also agree that he is not the most natural finisher.

Without doubt this is his best season yet, and his goals total will be a PB in English football if he scores 4 more.

Has he reached 100 games for City? Wiki seems to suggest he's on 99. Loyal servant.

Narrow margins. My impression was that his shot came off the post, so it wasn’t like he blazed it over. Otherwise he had a good game yesterday, took his goal well, it was his header that set up Benkovic for the second, plus his usual defensive headers. But he gets no help from the referees. There were at least a couple of blatant fouls on him that weren’t given but that seems to be the same every match at this level; Defenders are given the benefit of even the slightest doubt.

The penultimate touch was a bit heavy, which meant that the finish was less composed and he still didn't miss by much. Certainly not worth berating him for, as some around me did (always do)

He plays with passion, he's improving all the time and is on course for his best return in English football. I don't get the animosity towards him

The argument over being our most expensive signing ever? He was 5m for a seemingly guaranteed 12+ goals a season, seems a decent return to me

He's playing his best football for us since he signed. Need to get him signed up to a new contract ASAP.

Think he'll be sold this summer, couple of things Johnson have said plus Africa cup next January.

100 games is the equivalent of just over 2 seasons of football - is that the definition of a ‘loyal servant’ these days?! Blimey ...

Very early signs of some good link up between Fam and Wells also.
The Corner which led to the 2nd goal was a result of Fam winning a header and Wells getting on to it. That’s pleasing to see.
He was good again last night, looks thinner and fitter to me last 6-8 weeks.

thought the same about the one against brum. He's improved leaps and bounds but will always miss a few sitters a year with poor football IQ or maybe finishing IQ. Reminds me of when I went to see West Brom in 2004 or 2005 when Kanu was playing for them and technically for the most part he was very good, but then missed a certain goal from about 1 yard out.. i'll find the video hang on , starts at 2:10

He's been excellent for a few months now. I hope we're in contract negotiations with him, only a year left in the summer.

A striker with a 1 in 3 record in this division is something most clubs would love to have.

I’m thinking that he scored a lot of goals where he has limited or no time to think, it’s purely instinct. As soon as you give him a few seconds (like the one on one last night) he’ll often overthink it and miss. It’s definitely a mental issue.

Alan parry is absolutely dreadful, he kept saying that we will be in the play offs with a win or even a draw, seemingly oblivious to the fact Preston were playing

The two he didn’t score were typical Fam. The one cleared off the line. How does he seem to find the defender there? Then everything about the 1v1 was perfect. Slowed his run so he was in our half when the pass is played. Touch from the pass took him towards goal. Enough composure and pace to get in front of the defender so he couldn’t challenge then a slightly Heavy touch and misses just wide.

This isn’t a criticism as such because I love the guy and have rated him since he has been here. Definitely improved his all around game and still a decent goal scorer but he always leaves you with a what if. One thing I will say, even last season, he is getting in much better positions in the box. He wastes them a bit and his movement is not always great but he gets good chances regularly now. Top guy and top professional. If he finishes 10% more of those good chances he isn’t here anyway.

A very good player that gets a lot of unjust criticism. In his defence he was absolutely spent by the time that chance came round, he just didn’t stop working all night. Took the wrong option and should have taken it round the keeper, but it was only a couple of inches the wrong way.

Weimann’s was worse for me, he had all the time in the world to take a touch and work it into a better position.

As an aside I think Johnson and the team deserve a lot of credit for just how much they’ve improved him. His all round game is miles better than when he arrived.

Welcome to 2020!

I make Diedhiou 5th in City appearances of the current squad. Korey has 164 (says wiki), Pato 110, Baker 109, COD 106.

He could easily overtake 2/3 of those if he stays for his 4th season.

yes strikers score and miss chances but I felt Fammy was a big part of our win last nite.

It was interesting chatting to Derby fans after the game and they where very impressed with Fammy and felt he was our best player by a mile and paid LJ many plaudits for how he has taken our team forward on a limited budget.

Statto.

Famara gets stick, but he’s very decent for this level. Compare that then to COD, who with more appearances is still yet to do anything of any note in a City shirt.

The big difference last night was where the ball was getting hit up to him he didn’t have to try and chest it or hold it up all the time but he could flick it on and Nahki Wells was there to run into it, personally thought it has the making of a very good partnership but we will see. Took his goal well but he really needs to be finishing those 1 v 1’s. Overall good performance

All the more reason to get him on a new contract!

Personally I’d like to see him stay. I think he could form a partnership with Wells, and it would take the pressure off Fam in terms of goals scored being the only thing he’s judged by. If he’s providing the chances for a 20 goal natural poacher in Nahki Wells, and at the same time chipping in with a dozen goals of his own, we’ll see him as an absolute bargain at £5m, and not someone we could easily replace.

I think the next stage of Fam's development is to learn how to operate as a supporting striker alongside Wells. I want to see him notch several assists in this pairing.

He was really good last night, shame about the 1v1 at the end. Unfortunately it just isn't his strength. Doesn't seem to have the composure to multitask in that situation.. controlling the high ball, bending his run towards goal, holding off the pressuring defenders and finishing against an advancing keeper.

He's very good at his strengths though and is clearly becoming a bit of a fan's favourite. If I had to pick one player to score in a playoff final to take us up - aside from Afobe it would definitely be Famara.

I've always been a Fam fan, and while he can be frustrating at times with his poor first touch there is no doubt that season on season he has improved. I love his passion and commitment. I hope we can get him to sign a new contract - as I think he can only get better, and It would cost us a fortune to replace him for a similar player.

He has always been a marmite player, but he has worked hard to win over those fans than don't favor him.

Blame clubs/agents. There's waaaay too much money when moving around from club to club these days.

Might have been a case of too much time. His goal was well taken, his confidence is up as he's shooting from distance more now, and TBF his touch and pace to get away for that chance was good. I remember Tammy did the same thing once or twice for us, shame he didn't make the final minutes a little more relaxed , but no one takes every chance.

Definitely, seems to have the passion that might just be the difference in a pressure situation like that. Would probably be off his arse from 3 yards in the 93rd minute!

Famara is a superb athlete, not a superb goal scorer and there the difference lies within.

George Weah was both and he is one of the greatest forward players to ever grace the game.

How we set up and play means the athlete trumps the goal scorer.

The midfield simply have to be better.

The Mane miss has much in common with Fam’s last night in terms of missing a 1v1 just wide versus Napoli. Maybe it’s a Senegalese thing?!

I think his record in all competitions for us is something like 38 goals in 110 appearances. It's almost bang on 1 in 3.

Looks like last night may have been his 100th league appearance for us. 35 in 100 in the league. All these figures are from transfermarkt.

He's consistent as well. 13 in the league last season, 13 the season before that, and 9 this term with 14 left to play. Metronomic.

His touch to bring the ball down and drop it into the exact space to then hammer it into the roof of the net was sensational.  I've watched it this morning on Quest about 25 times, and it gets better every time.

Diedhiou is in my list of favourite City players because of his work ethic, goals scored, and apparent passion for the club.

You would think he was a Bristolian with the way he celebrates scoring for us.

Fammy is a Robin for life.

If I had to value him in the current market, he must be worth at least £8million.

I'd like us to tie him to a 3 year deal now so that we get that 27-30 age period in which forwards can really mature. There would still be time to sell for a reasonable fee.

Im not sure about limited budget??? We had 10 million quids worth of strikers starting last night! Net spend might be another matter but he has spent 10s of millions in his time here.
