I will always remember playing against Chris when I was at primary school. He was playing for South St primary if my memory serves me well. Before the game started our teacher advised us that they had a player who was very good and that we would put two players on him to shut him down. We lost 11-1 Chris scored 10 and one of the goals was when he picked up a pass from their goalkeeper just outside their box and proceeded to dribble up through the field and and scored in our penalty area. We had a reasonable side at that time but his class was just amazing. Thanks for the memories Chris as a junior and senior player.

Your memory does serve you correct - he was at South Street. I was 11and not in the school team, and if my memory serves me correctly Chris made the school team at 8. Again if my memory serves me correctly (very often in the home for the bewildered at my age) there were some other good local semi professional and amateur players emerged from that school team - John Price, Brian Coggins, Minnie Fisher.

Really, really good player and would have been capped for England in this era.

He should be proud that a goal he scored over 40 years ago STILL rankles when I think about it!

Didn't he play for England under 21s at Ashton Gate once?

Think he was an unused sub. Put about 10,000 on the crowd.

Was there ... can remember some jealous Sagheads kicking out all the marker pegs on the embryonic Dolman Stand.

Yep, they did get in East End , or a fair few did, although I think they were escorted around the pitch edge whilst game still going on , in first half...

Can still see Cormack  stroking in that penalty - was a massive win for us

Think it was well-signalled as most of the Park End lads went in the East End that match.

Spurs still got a bit of a surprise when they arrived at the gate leading into their part of the Park End though!

Think Chelsea paid  a City club record (at the time obvs) fee fir Chrissy Garland (our record receipt not their record purchase).

If I remember correctly he was Bristol’s first £100,000 footballer when we sold him to Chelsea.

You started it! ?

I did mention on a thread earlier in the season that I ended up sat next to Tom Ritchie at a Rovers game and we spent the entire second half chatting about old games. This one cropped up and he told me how all the City players were buzzing after giving us such a hiding, only to be laid into by Alan Dicks for taking the piss!

Think it was called the under 23s but yes he was picked, the game was played at home park Plymouth England beat Bulgaria 4-1. He came on as a substitute for Paul Edwards.

I do recall going to an under 23 international at the Gate where Chris was an unused substitute before he left for Chelsea.  I can't for the life of me remember who the opponents were though.

What I do remember though is the crowd kept chanting "Garland for England" throughout the game and being a bit upset that he didn't actually make an appearance.

I do remember going to a game as a lad against Birmingham City. For whatever reason we arrived circa 1:30 and were in the open end. There was a gang of Brum fans giving it large chanting "we're taken the East End". Come about half past two they had gone very quiet !!

West Ham sort of did. They arrived early and 'charged' around 2.15 from where I was standing by the corner flag nearest the Enclosure. The fact that there weren't many City behind the goal at the time is one thing but their tenure lasted only a minute as Julie H's predecessors sorted them out!

I remember that one - it was a little bit hairy for a minute or two but not for long.

Yes, bit of a carve-up. Ramsey never had any intention of playing him, he was just named in the squad for "click-bait " !

The same thing happened with Matt Hewlett many years later, named in the squad but never going to get on. I think it was a thing back then to name a random player from the club who`s ground was being used to get a few more through the gate.
