Very memorable game and fantastic support that night.

The City fans didn't stop singing - literally -from the moment the 2nd half kicked off until the final whistle.

Fantastic game and great goal by Gerry Sweeney. Stood in the paddock with hundreds of other city supporters - the only place we could get in! I'll always remember the chants of "City, City" near the end of the game from what seemed to be all around the ground. That was probably the most important win that season other than the final game.

Amazing game and result, The Alamo sums it up it up perfectly. Also remember driving back down the M5, 4 of us in my old Cortina and pulling into the first services we came to, it seemed like the all the City fans had the same thought, absolutely rammed, brilliant atmosphere.

Was that the 1 nil win with Sweeney scoring?

I was there, what a great win!  Also went to the junction off the M5 for the original fixture on a Saturday afternoon, which was postponed because the City squad did not have enough fit players a load of them had got the flu, after receiving their flu jabs the week before (at least that was the official line!)  Bear in mind this was pre internet days and we were playing cassettes in the car rather than listening out for sports news on the radio, so had no inkling until the local plod flagged us down as we were in sight of the Hawthorns.

Ended up going to see Birmingham v Norwich, which was a bit of a borefest (albeit a top flight game), ended up 1-1. Main thing I remember about that game was a crunching , "make-the-crowd-shudder" tackle by Kenny Burns on Norwich's Ted McDougal (who scored for Norwich IIRC).

But the WBA v City game was incredible, it was thought before the game that the winner would get promoted at the other team's expense, but WBA ended up going up in 3rd place, we were 2nd and Sunderland top.

Massive celebrations in several pubs and clubs in and around the city centre that night.

We went from the House That Jack Built in St John's Lane, over to Dunlops, The Rummer and a few other drink-holes packed with City followers from all areas.

There was a coachload of rugby players from South Wales in town that night. To avoid any trouble, the Old Bill rounded up our lot after Romeo & Juliets/Top Rank closed and penned us together outside the main entrance to Bridewell Police Station. They escorted us to the taxi ranks and advised us to go home or get nicked.

Too be fair, the coppers were as good as gold that night, I suspect a fair few were City fans who wanted to clock off asap to enjoy some beers themselves.

The house that Jack built now that's a blast from the past was my second home when attending Marksbury Rd tech, happy days.  the rest of those places are a real trip down memory lane many a great night in R&Js.

Yes I was there. memories?

1; that 2nd half went sooo quickly .... until the final ten minutes when time stood still.

2; our coach passed the player's coach and they all waved at us as though we were the ones who had taken that big step to Div 1.

3; although it was mid March I had to scrape ice off the car windscreen when the coach dropped me off.

4; rather than wait until morning, my parents sat up to ask about the game when I got in.

Was there. Remember our goal getting peppered. Ball hitting the bar, shots cleared off the line and then the relief of the final whistle.

Unfortunately couldn't get out of the bloody car park we'd parked up in for ages. Rammed. That game and the one at Sunderland set up the chance of promotion.

I went with some mates from work. Parked in an industrial estate, when we got to Hawthorns pub it was heaving with red and white. On of the mates, got on his hands and knees, crawled through the mass and returned a couple of minutes later with four pints. Incredible!

As for the game we got a lead just before halftime when Sweeney scored.

The second half was a total siege of the goal at the Brummie Road end. They hit us with everything, we led a charmed life and held on for one of the biggest smash and grab since time began.

And nearly did the same at Roker Park a couple of weeks later but they grabbed an equaliser in injury time.

What a season.

(just kidding all - completely respect my elders)

A depressing thought but the only consolation of that is some of us of a certain age witnessed some of the finest, incredible, story book City away trips (Leeds FA Cup '74, Coventry to stay up '77).

I was about 14 years old for the West Brom game, went in a mini bus with my dad and his mates, the atmosphere was electric and as NTTDS says it was like the Alamo, but after that game we just knew City were returning to the top division for the first time in 60 odd years.
