I've lived in BS3 for over 35 years and have never known one newcomer to the area from outside Bristol to ever be the sllghtest bit interested in watching BCFC.

As we all know many houses in BS3 are bought up by people relocating - very often from London - and they're either not interested in football or have their own team already, and in most cases that team will become their children's team too - especially as many only seem to stay for a few years before moving on.

No doubt there will be a few newcomers who will try frequenting AG, if only 'for something to do' - but a very small number imo. - and without a passion for the club they'll soon get bored with what's on offer, and the general air of gloom around them in the stands, and very likely stop coming and find something else to do.

I certainly don't see these people bumping up our ST sales and see no evidence in the make up of the crowd that might be the case.

Is Nogbad the new Robbored ?

I spoke to a young (20s) Italian lad in Napoli colours after one game this season striding back across Grev Smyth park with his young boy, both sporting City colours too, season ticket holders he said. I almost apologised for the "atmosphere," and the "football."

There are many people not from round yer watching us.

After  57 years supporting City no I won’t.

That’s a shame.

You, like all guys of our generation will have witnessed some absolutely crap ‘football’ served up on the pitch at AG plenty of times before, . Pulis and Osman spring to mind..................

Fact is managers change but fans don’t. We are the one constant.

This is absolute nonsense in my experience.

Only last night at the Question of Sport event at AG I was sat next to two blokes that live and work in BS3, one originally from London and the other Cornwall. Both have had ST's in the Lansdown Stand with their teenage boys for the past two seasons. Different clubs, but again only yesterday I was speaking to a young chap who's Dad supported Luton but they'd moved to Leicester when he was young and so he supported Leicester (and in fact has a ST and commutes from Bristol).

At the Millwall game I was sat next to two UWE students originally from the south east, both of whom had adopted City as their team and went to games when they could. They were showing more interest and passion for the team than most of the regulars sat around me in Block A Dolman, in fact.

You must walk around with your eyes and ears shut if you've NEVER known newcomers to Bristol to be interested in watching City. Try speaking to people around you in the ground and there's many that have adopted City as their team after moving to Bristol.

Well, we all have different experiences - mine are from living in BS3 for the best part of 40 years with my 2 children going through a local primary.

So, yes I've met a lot of local people over many decades on which to base my view that newcomers to BS3 - I didn't say 'newcomers to Bristol' - many of whom are transient and move away again after a few years, are very unlikely to become regular City fans.

I'm well aware some make their lives here after going to University in Bristol and adopt City as their team, but it is a fraction afaic. My experience includes my own road where just about every house had Bristolians in it when we arrived in the early 80's. Almost every house has changed ownership in that time, and we are now one of only 3 Bristolian households. None who have come inbetween, and many houses have changed hands several times - our neighbour on one side 7 times - have taken any interest in Bristol City F.C.

A surprising number are now occupied by a single person, and the greater number of those are single professional women, some now retired, who moved to Bristol from all over due to work - teachers, doctors etc.

My road is about a mile from AG and the changes in the make up of the local population in that time has been huge and very noticeable. It should be a City heartland ( a persuasive factor, along with it's proximity to AG, in my moving here from another area of Bristol in the first place) but households of born and bred Bristolians are getting scarcer and scarcer.

There's really no need no need for the 'absolute nonsense' bit at the start of your reply btw. You can disagree from your own experiences, and the very few examples you give, but it really doesn't alter my view in any way.

Same here, will renew but not sure how many games I'll attend while LJ is in charge

Well I'm sorry but that's just plain daft, it's like going into your local buying a pint and not bothering to drink it, why would anyone do that? in my opinion that takes misguided loyalty to a whole new level.

With respect, you appear to be drawing your assumptions from what you see in your own street alone.

Many new residents (a lot of non-Bristolians) go to football because it's part of the scene going on in Southville and 'Bedmo' (FFS!). Many will have family, friends and work colleagues who are already ST holders, and therefore will want to socialise together.

I can't see any reason why my street wouldn't be fairly typical of the area?

I've no doubt some incomers, or people working in Bristol for a limited time use going to AG as a way to socialise with City supporting workmates, that's always been the way in small numbers. Others still will become adopted Bristolians and full time fans if they stay in Bristol long enough.

I remember getting a Sunderland fan to a few games once when he was working down here and he enjoyed it but City never became his team.

I've also overheard a couple of Poles and Spaniards at AG in the last couple of years wearing City scarfs so I'm in no way denying those moving to Bristol who are interested in watching football may give City a try. Especially as in the cases of the above they could carry on supporting their main team in their home country as well with no conflict of loyalties.

It's numbers where we disagree - I think it's a fairly small number, especially when it comes to affecting ST sales.

A matter of opinion I suppose (unless you have some sort of figures - it would certainly be interesting if the club did) but most accents I hear at AG are still very much Bristol/Somerset.

I'd very much like to think you are right btw, and those who are settling in Bristol, and their children, are taking BCFC to their hearts.

I just see very little evidence of that in my particular area of the 'heartland'. I don't see those people buying up houses in BS3, generally, as being the type to seek out their local football club for either footballing or social reasons.

I mean to pay £500 quid for something out of a sense of loyalty despite not really intending to go to the games or enjoying them in my opinion is misguided.

I will pick and choose which games I will go to unlike the previous 50 odd years where I barely missed a game

I wonder how many of those who are dramatically basking in the claims that they won’t be renewing - actually have one renew, anyway..?

90% of those ‘I’m not renewing because the football is crap’  will actually renew......:cool2:. Question is - why claim that you’re not renewing when you deep down they know that they will?    ...:dunno:

I spent a long time thinking about that too and came to the conclusion it's almost certainly all of them.

Bristol Sport will be quids in if you go to more than 10 or 11 games......and if we get off to a good start, you might want to watch every game !

I shall be renewing, but I'm moving to the Lansdown, fed up with years of the "Dolman salute" sun squinting and getting frozen by the prevailing winds...........too old for that lark, now !

You’ll miss the sun, as it warms the Dolman to a surprising degree. You’ll get better legroom in the Lansdown but it’s permanently in the shade, hence much colder. A better alternative to moving would be to buy a baseball cap. Then you could have the luxury of a sun warmed seat in the Dolman without the sun in your eyes

I check out the wether forecast beforehand. If sunny then I wear a cap to the game. If it’s cloudy I don’t bother but wear a woolly hat instead.

Works for me.

I hope the football is entertaining enough that I go to every game, getting fussy and less tolerant in my old age, to be fair I usually find a family member to have my ticket when I don't go
