He made his debut on a water logged pitch and disappeared. Very strange he was a quality lower league playmaker and had a very successful spell in a good Tranmere side. That goal away at Sunderland to get a 1-1 draw.... will never forget that. Live on Sky. Battered for 90 mins and Welchy had the game of his life in goal. Sunderland walked the league that year. We signed him, but for the life of me, I cannot remember him playing. COYR "Thanks for the deal. But can I have one last game with my old team?" "Nope" "Well, I'm playing anyway." *rip up his contract*. I believe we also had Wayne Hennessey on an emergency loan around 15 years ago, I thinks his only tilt for us was Carlisle away. Chappers
16 minutes ago, Port Said Red said: I remember Ian Leigh (by name only) and Gary Smith from that list. Leigh was a loan keeper from Bournemouth, had one poor game at home to Walsall. Gary Smith was a forward with ability, apart from finishing. Had a number of good seasons at Bath City. Ray Gooding was a loan from Coventry after the collapse, thankfully the FL decided we could not borrow players so he went back. Mark Smith made one, I think, sub appearance after the collapse. Billy Down was a left back, one game at Doncaster, last game of 81-82 season, then released. Met him, Terry Boyle and a couple of other players before the game, just walking down a street near the ‘stadium’ Nicky Reid was a nondescript loan at some point. For a while, we had so many of these that they blurred from memory.
