I’m gonna wait until Sky offer online cancellation of sports channels on Friday, and see how it affects other discounts.

My thoughts too.

Even glimpses of old matches is a kind of relief at the moment

Because they want to talk you out of it - standard sky practice.  Same with any cancellation.  They could make it so simple but they won't.

Don't blame you for thinking it in this day and age but that's not actually true - our main site in London has been closed to all-but broadcast essential staff since Monday. One call centre in Cardiff was shut from last week when a worker started developing symptoms.

Most people are still working from home and I don't know how the call centres are dealing with that, but I can't imagine it's at all straightforward and pretty sure it's unprecedented. Equally setting up an online refund option from scratch within three days of the PL being postponed, which will generate significant traffic, is quite a challenge during Coronavirus.

Not sure I believe you to be honest. Seems to be some inconsistencies with your story.

Just had this email:

In such challenging times, we wanted to let you know what we're doing at Sky to keep you connected to what matters, when it matters most.

Our first priority is ensuring our customers continue to get the very best service we can provide. We'd love more people to experience Sky, but for the time being, we're focusing our attention and resources on making sure we do our very best for our existing customers. Whether this is prioritising the calls coming into our call centres, improving our online service, or sending our engineers on visits to your home to keep your services up and running.

With us all likely to be spending more time at home in the coming months, we're also doing a few extra things to make your Sky TV experience even better.

We're making Sky Go Extra available to all our customers for free, so busy homes will have access to Sky TV on three screens at the same time.

We're launching three new channels this Spring – Sky History, Sky Nature and Sky Documentaries – providing high quality factual programmes that can help educate as well as entertain.

Because going out to the cinema may not be possible for a while, we're bringing the cinema to you, by making a range of movies available in your home through Sky Store, on the same day as the global premieres.

We're bringing YouTube kids and Disney+ to Sky Q in the coming weeks, so you and your family have even more entertainment choices.

While we expect that many of the recently postponed sports events will eventually go ahead, if you wish to pause your sports subscription you will not be charged a fee to do so or be held to any notice period. Meanwhile, we continue to provide high quality content across all of our 11 sports channels.

We also appreciate that staying connected is crucial at a time like this, so we're making sure our Broadband, Talk and Mobile services are as reliable as they can possibly be:

The Broadband, Talk and Mobile networks have been designed to handle high traffic peaks at all times of the day and night and our network engineers are working hard to ensure they are tested, monitored and improved 24/7.

To make it easier for you to keep in touch with your loved ones without worrying about costs - especially if you are self-isolating or reducing social contact - calls to UK landlines at any time of day will be free for our existing Sky Talk customers from this weekend to the end of April.

With the prospect of many of us working from home, we want our existing Sky Mobile customers to be able to access the internet without worrying about running out of data. So, we'll soon be adding a 10GB data boost into the Piggybanks of all of our customers, free of charge. This can be shared across all the SIMs on your account.

Thanks for your continued loyalty to Sky. In these tough times, we want you to know that you can rely on us to keep you connected to whatever matters most to you, when it matters most.

I phoned Sky yesterday and wasn’t offered the opportunity to pause my SP subscription so I had no choice but to cancel it. I had exactly the same response from BT. No pause option so I had to cancel that as well.............:dunno:

I’ll resign when sport restarts again.

Yeah just paused mine online too.

I may have misread the message as it disappeared quickly but I thought it said all 11 channels and recordings will still be available.

Whatever, a good service from Sky, fair play

No doubt Sky will be in touch soon enough and ask if you really meant to cancel, followed up by the 'Did you know that you can pause?'

Just done this online. Took 10 seconds and my future bills were updated immediately. And can still access the Sports channels.

Sky take a lot of stick, but fair play to them on this one, and for making it so straightforward.

Still a queue.

Thing is rather than having to pause it, they should automatically suspend charges for everyone.

You can see an estimate for future bills (3months?) on line to check what they intend to charge you.

Just had an email from Virginmobile to say that everyone needs to be in contact in times like where are experiencing now hence they have upped my call time to unlimited and upped my data from 4gb to 10gb at no extra cost to me.

Surely a clear sign that Branson is no longer running the show.

Leave it on the page for a while, it did automatically refresh for me last night.

When I did get through, it was after waiting for about 10 minutes I think. I gave up after 5 during the day only as I was in work.

Didn't realise how much it had gone up in the past year to be fair, saving £31 a month now!

Anyone have experience of BT Sport and a ‘pausing’ option before I attempt to negotiate their call systems?

I can't see anything on my Bt and have tried calling several times but did read somewhere online there is no pause option

BT offered me 1 month credit when I threatened to cancel. Took over 2 hours to speak to someone, mind. Got to go through the same process in a month’s time if football still suspended.

Sky so much better (so far).

Correct. As far as I'm aware they just aren't charging at the moment. Channels are still showing as normal though, although most of it is reruns and sky sports news.

I had to cancel both Sky and BT sports independently. Neither offered a pause option and it seems that we’ve almost all experienced different outcomes. Looks like neither of them have kept their staff up to speed with what options are actually available.

Pretty sure your Sky cancellation will not take effect for 30 days, so you could call them back up, say you have changed your mind, and then pause sports.

Worth a go.

Years ago, I cancelled because we were moving out whilst house was adapted for Joe, and rental house wouldn’t allow a dish to be be put up.  14 days later they phoned me up asking if I wanted to change my mind.

I’ll try that tomorrow Dave but when I phoned first time, pausing wasn’t an option with Sky or BT but reading the posts on here it seems other were able to pause. Seems the call centre staff are giving out inconsistent messages.

Yes, suspect they weren’t aware at the time.

the record and catch-up functions are quite handy at this point in time

Looked into what Virgin are doing, pretty much nothing.

One forum , a guy said he spoke to them and they are not cutting charges as the sport will restart within a month or so.

They give extra data, or faster wifi, (which must be coming out of mine because it seems slower) which obviously costs them nowt.

They are also allowing you to buy more films, earlier, which will come at a premium.

But apparently they will allow you to cancel the sport.

Now the the cynic in me would say that they expect you to rejoin when the sport starts again, and that you would lose any discounts. I'm thinking they will lose a lot of custom, like all those wanky shop owners charging over the odds for single toilet rolls.

Dave,

I paused online, and Sky have confirmed they're not charging me until Live Sports is back up running.

In the meantime, I can still watch all 11 channels free.

Yes, was just just suggesting to RR that he might be able to re-instate his cancellation.  He phoned up to cancel before the online pause option was available.
