Beating Cardiff 3-0 in the pouring rain at Ninian Park in the 89-90 promotion season, which included a wonder-goal by Bob Taylor. My first away game (other than Wembley).

Being 1-0 up at h-t at Man City a couple of years ago.

5-4 at Mansfield. Sheer ecstasy  when that winning goal went in.

The carnival atmosphere at Bournemouth in the first game after Pulis had left .

Beating Liverpool at Anfield in 1994

the 4-3 televised game at Derby County was fabulous: had it all and more - the bizarre Baseball Ground as the venue; a cramped terrace; red cards; comedy own goal; an outfield player in goal; and a last minute winner from the head of our Wayner. Cue a storm of rocks and rubble. An electric atmosphere with us coming back after going 2-0 down to moneybags Derby; as a young teen it was of course my duty to be up by the fence closest to the home fans and the atmosphere was just electric. I seem to remember, while he wasn't playing that match, we spent a fair while turning around 'doing the Dziekanowski', because that's what it was all about :D

Another few randoms I fondly recall: Birmingham away 1-0. It was their first match under the pornographers and that bimbo, so it was a bumper crowd on a blazing day. Massive following from us on that giant terrace, and a flukey win where you're just hanging on by the fingertips. A proper cider army we had up there that day as well!

Millwall in 92 I think. My one and only trip to the Real Den and what a ground that was. That was middle of our mini-Dennis Smith escape. Cole looked world class, and Ray Atteveld scored one of the goals of the season. Unforunately for the wrong side, but a cracking effort regardless :D A match where the terrace was probably only a third full, yet the noise under that roof we made was fabulous. A real proper day out! Can't imagine what it must have been like in the 80s!!

plunging the barrel, there's been calamities aplenty. Palace away getting tanked 4-1. IRC we's taken 8,000 to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, but for this match normal service resumed and we couldn't have had more than 200 on that sweeping, open end at Selhurst - I believe the away pen used to hold 4,500 so wow, there was more social distancing than found on the Moon. I was in my final year at school that year, so remember skiving the Tuesday to go up to London with a couple of friends and spend the afternoon monkeying around Soho before the football ruined everything. Sleet and goals flying in at all angles and that bloody awful lime kit. Utterly miserable, though I recall a (very) small huddle of us singing You'll Never Walk Alone for no real reason other than it seemed wrong to sing City songs during such a diabolical night.

Masochists as football fans are, getting mauled at Brentford 5-1 was also a fun day out. Incredible following from us and, I think, possibly the debut of our purple and lime kit? I think Brian Mitchell put in the worst shift I have ever seen a City player put in. "Mitchell, **** off home," went the song over and over again. Great backing from us, with loads of Doobie Dooing and Let's Go *ing Mental throughout and again, just one of those matches you love as a teen - sod the football, a great laugh and a piss-up in the smoke! We had the last laugh as well by relegating Brentford on the last day of the season in the return fixture.

Bolton away think it was around 1990 lost 1-0 but was a absolute mental day, left at 6 am Saturday morning and got back home 10-30 Sunday morning, mental days, sadly never to return.

You had to be there to really appreciate it

If it's the one I am thinking of, that was the last time I saw really bad scrapping before, during and after the match.

Promotion season 89-90 away to Swansea City on a Tuesday night on my birthday 20th March. A hat trick from Super Bob , one from Biffer Newman and Chris Honour , correct me if I’m wrong . A little tasty before and after as I recall. Packed in like sardines . Magic

Had the windows on our mini bus put through while we were stopped at some traffic lights, the bus emptied out in about 5 seconds.

Far to many to mention but Bolton away was unforgettable, Sheff U when we beat them in the play offs to send them down, Mansfield 5-4..got thrown out at half time but managed to sneak back in for the finale, Boro away one year was "interesting"  Chester when we started the climb back from the depths of division 4, Palace in the play offs, Gas in the Martyn Hurst game, Walsall in the play offs..not for the result, Bradford and Forest in the league cup run obviously Liverpool in the cup and bizarrely Hereford when we were rock bottom of the 4th division and we beat them in a night match and you would have thought we had won the Champions League, great memories ?

Liverpool 0-1 City, 25 January 1994.

Cardiff 1-3 City, 29 December 2001.

I was fortunate to be at both games and had a ticket for the Mansfield game in 2002 but was as sick as a dog and had to listen on the radio - the only game I missed in 2002/03 and it still annoys me now. We played proper football back then.

Away at Chester...1984. City started the great climb back!

Always my first thought when these threads pop up. Brilliant day, train up, ditch the police escort, on it all day . Fence being cut, Cooper nearly being dropped out of the stand, just one long day of fun.... oh and we won.

Pisa, is always next , City in Europe who would have thunk it.

Leicester in the cup, we were half way to watch Spurs thanks to radio Bristol saying the game was off.

Swansea 5-0

Sunderland 3-1, in Chester le Street for opening time .

Beating Millwall at the Old Den, and coming back with all out windows

Derby 4-3

Carlisle 3-0 , Tommy Doc having a stormer. I worked Friday night home at 5:30, picked up at 6am and in the Services outside Carlisle by 10. Win and back to Blackpool.

G*s at Eastville 4-1, my first League derby.

Loved Man City in the cup.

Really so many, shame I don't get to so many now.

Must mention 2 trips to Newport, the one when it could have been our final league game and another when the locals didn't seem to like me much and after hitting me to the ground decided they wanted to throw " the English b@@@@@d " through a shop window....luckily they missed!!

Too many away days to put on here as many were a bit sketchy to say the least. Bolton away 1990 was just one long mad day. Millwall away a few times in the 80s at the Old Den was memorable. Newport, Hereford, Cardiff, Plymouth, Bournemouth, Walsall, Brum, Swansea, Forest in the Cup, Leicester in the Cup,  the list goes on.

Just to say, the away day was also about some of the great mates I have made which without them would not make the away day. Great memories. Stay safe all you Reds.

Can’t remember the year but Scot Murray running down the side of pitch to us fans behind the goal  at NP. What a fantastic wind up to the Cardiff fans when he cupped his hand behind his ear......brilliant, brilliant result and day out. I’ll never forget it.

I always loved away days at NP. What a shit hole and the most hostile away ground ever.

Can't believe I missed the Bolton game, was following City everywhere at that time!

Personal favourites -

Liverpool away, Tinman at the Kop end, then watching the Kop stay til the end and applaud us

Mansfield away 5-4, scenes scenes scenes, made even more memorable as my daughter lives there and every weekend when I visit, we pass the ground and the day comes flooding back

Bradford & Forest away, Littlewoods Cup, so many fans in the way ends at both, JJ was immense @ Valley Parade, the surging @ City Ground, Walshy shuffle

Leicester FA Cup 3rd round, Jacki, Jacki, Jacki - like an ice skater without skates, freezing conditions, red hot performance!  Made friends that day that are still friends til this day, even discovered we drank in the same pub in Hanham (Maypole)

For some bizarre reason I recall a group of us trying to set fire to a Rovers shirt in the away end @ Manor Ground Oxford one year, @Harrymight be able to help me here?!

Cardiff 3-1, super Scotty Murray - we all know the rest. Piss throwing?  Nah, better to take the piss!

Birmingham 4-0, 89/90 promotion season, my first understanding of some 'proper' boys in the away following (plenty there not for the football, shall we say!)

Swansea 5-0 on a wet Tues night, old Vetch Field, shit ground, great atmosphere! Super Bob Bob!

Rovers 4-2, Trumpton, 'on it' before the game in Bath, rocked up in a taxi right on kickoff, not sure how we made it through the turnstiles, Agostino, Seal, Ted Nugent et al.....up on the fences for each of the goals.

Too many I've forgotten, too many I can't remember!

Love an away day!!
