Ibrahimovic was in quite a few conversations apparently before choosing to go back to Milan. Obviously talks could be as much as ‘do you want to join us?’.... ‘no thanks’. Ibra has a betting tieup too, maybe they were looking at this as an option- or maybe on a 6 month deal dependent on FFP headroom and no fee, it could have been explored.
