The bands that never were

Recommended Posts

You're starting a band up, you need a name.

The serious and the ridiculous welcomed.

As a bedroom guitar player, music fan, aging hippy, this, that and the other.. from time to time, i like to think .. yeah, what should I call this band I've just got started?

Death By 12-string ?

Municipal Liars ?

Thrive ?

Prize ?

Prise ?

Orchard Murder ?

ÆØÅ ?

I Fought A War For The Likes Of You ?

Fitter ? (ask a Norwegian friend, and it makes more sense, clue: it begins with a C)

Come on, let's be 'avin yoo. I want your suggestions. Must state genre of music to be played by your new lot.

In the mid / late 80s I saw Toyah at the Colston Hall. Support band were called "Now is the time to forget the whimpering child and become the warrior".

How I remember that ridiculous name I'll never know, but they didn't make it anywhere near big!

'There is no God'

Glorious 1st critically acclaimed album 'Psalms for Beginners, part 1'

A mix of melancholic Radiohead/Smiths guitars and lyrics crossed with drums and rhythm of Foo Fighters

(no wonder I threw it all in the bin!)

There Is No God will undoubtedly  be huge, but will they sell out?

I'm going, yes and they will and leave us that were there at the start well pissed.

The Codpiece Band

Openly gay / macho / humanist 3-piece who often cited Husker Du as a big influence ( ****, how could you possibly argue with that?)

Love their cover of the Blackadder theme tune. A MUST.

There Is No God will indeed be hugely successful, selling out festival after festival, arena after arena, their 'Psalms for Beginners part 1' tour will break records for crowds and revenue, the band will return to the UK and wonder what the hell the last 18 months was all about/for. The money, fame and awards all pointless. The band will split and reform some years later, leaving behind everything that made them famous. Touring local fetes and the occasional 'One Show' set, providing the new music intro to 'Songs of Praise' as well as headlining 'Countryfile Live', the band will be reborn as 'Jehovah's Witness', leaving an adoring public and music press alike aghast.

The vocalist / main bloke bloke made one very good solo record to be fair

Meat is Magnificent. A bit preachy, but how could one argue with the sentiments? Fair play to the guy.

PS No way is "psalms" their best, but it's all about opinions I suppose

In fact, if i'm being honest. i reckon that Dorothy bloke is a bit of a ****.

Julian Cope, Ian McCollough and Pete Wylie apparently started a band called The Crucial 3, before they went their separate ways.

They never recorded anything, I can imagine that with three egos of that size, there were probably just spent hours of arguments over whose band it was etc.

Used to be a five a side playing under that name (or very similar) at Pro5 in Bris around 2003-7ish. Was on a Monday night.

I've heard it is a good read. Wasn't there a two in one version, where you turn it upside down and read another book from the back?

One name is nailed on for a new band, in a few years time.

I expect we can all guess the word.

Starts with a C  ends with S

or starts with C and ends in 19
