To be fair, most of us who don't like him didn't expect society to reach a point where, within three months, he had no choice but to introduce the most socialist policies of any government in living memory. I'm not a fan but today him and Rishi Sunak have done what they need to do. Fair to play to them.

Yep. They are breaking the bank to prevent complete anarchy. They have no choice.

Support the population, keep everyone alive and vaguely sane, then worry about the cost of it in years to come.

Bollocks fair play to them, some would of already unnecessarily died because this has come at least a week too late

Pretty well all of us, ie all countries, the world are in the same boat. Maybe it cancels out.

A plus for me is the VAT payment deferment. I had two grand to pay this weekend and Mrs LR`s income has dried up completely with all the markets and craft fairs being cancelled so it was going to be a bit of a pinch - on the up side though, she`s managed to bag a temporary job at the Co-Op for the time being.

Anyone who has been laid off it`s worth looking at the supermarkets - they all need staff urgently and it`s only going to get worse now the schools have closed.

And the sadly ironic thing is that these are the very same people who will be pleading poverty and demanding handouts in two weeks time.

I agree but I'm still glad they've got here now rather than delaying for longer and risking more lives. Giving credit where it is due for acting now in no means changes the fact I wish they had acted sooner.

Ironic that British Airways were up in arms only a few weeks ago at the thoudght that one of their (failing competitors), was attempting to get government help to stave off adninistration. Now British Airways are along way from failing and why should they be any more entitled to help than Flybe?

.

Mmmm...ironic, maybe, but I think we’re just slightly in a different place now than we were when Flybe got their handout.

Absolutely, but to be honest you have got to need the (probably minimum wage) quite badly as you really will be working front line with little or no protection, not only from the virus but the abuse and rudeness too.

I'm afraid they deserve no credit whatsoever, practically the last Country in the civilised world to take these measures

Spot on,why don’t they offer £20 a hour for risking it and it will also sneak out the can’t work won’t work people and we can nab them further down the line

Interesting line...clearly the national/global emergency is most important but...

Looks like football and beyond, all the pieces might be thrown back up in the air and land where they might- nobody knows where they will fall again. At least in these times.

I look forward to Bristol Rob's analysis of it in conjunction with contractual law.
