Roland used to talk mostly in Shakespeare quotes which was quite amusing. Best thing about the British Hotel was that you could buy a steak from the bar along with your beer and then cook it yourself outside on the BBQ.

My Brother in Law and Nephew still see Swanee from time to time and he apparently is more of a songwriter these days than a performer.  Last I heard Jimmy was living in Bowral, NSW but not sure if that is still the case.

I do miss a lot about Adelaide from back in those days especially the Drive In Movies. I think Gepps Cross is the only one left now. Also, who can forget a Pie Floater from the pie cart outside Adelaide station.

The Gepps Cross Drive in & The Pie Cart both gone now Tone. Jimmy is now somewhere in NSW, Bowral sounds right & he does quite a bit of charity work these days, as I said he's a good bloke & very lucky to have survived his heart attack a few years ago.

I heard that Gepps Cross caught fire but thought it had re opened. Shame otherwise cos is a great night out & the burgers were always the best. Didn't the pie cart relocate to Norwood direction ? Used to love it after a night on the batter down Hindley St.

I was in a local pub one Sunday evening when a call to the Gents was required. Whilst stood at the large open urinal a bloke came in and stood next to me, I gave him a quick hello as you do.

Then a few seconds later I turned back saying hey your Tony Allcock the bowls player arnt you whilst unfortunately piddling all over his Hush Puppies,  as you can imagine he wasnt best pleased.

An unfortunate name to have when recognised in the Gents

Not sure on the pie cart Tone, we moved out of Adelaide to the South East of SA & only visit to see grandkids & hospital appointments, oh the joys of growing old. Hindley St was in the news a lot for brawls etc prior to covid19.

Stay safe mate, I'm off to the f**t sack?

At the same time?

Yep.

As a youngster I had a knee injury which wouldn't clear up and the club invited me to come and see Buster Footman and the clubs knee and back specialist, who I cant remember his name.

I was having treatment in the physio room when Matt Bryant and Mark Shail walked in for treatment.

Turned out it wasnt a knee problem and I had a trapped nerve in my back.

Played as a schoolboy with Kevin Mabbutt, Steve White, Gary Megson for Parkway Juniors. Mabbutt and I also played for Bristol Boys together. Played for a team called Henbury Colts in the Bristol Junior League on Saturday afternoons. In those days as far as I can remember there was only one league per age group. We might of lost twice in 4 seasons. Shaun Penny would usually score a double hatrick per game. Always thought a team mate called Ian Carr was our best player and thought he would be a pro, he seemed to have everything. He ended up at Bristol Manor Farm. Dave Jenkins ex Arsenal & Tottenham had a few games for us at Briz fc. In the twilight of my playing days I scored a few headers off the crosses of Alan Walsh. Oh, and I once had a chat with David Bowie at the Colston Hall when Iggy Pop was playing there.

My mum did our family tree and found out we are  afield related to Walt Disney, she told me that was where I got my creative streak from!  Don’t have any of his money though!

One of our distant relatives is Samuel Pepys

You known popular drink Ribena was invented in Bristol.

Well I had a HOT Ribena once when I wasn't either ill, OR a child.

(Tasted like childhood memories of being ill).

Did you have chips with it?

My great granddad was Billy Pocock who played 238 times for City (according to Wiki). He died before I was born so only got stories from my nan (who has also died). Wonder if City would have any records of him? ?

If the club haven't, @Never to the dark side can likely point you towards a publication that can help.

He is the closest the forum has to a curator of 'stuff'.

You might need to explain that for the benefit of our younger listeners...…...

Not who Bryan Drysdale was, what an LP is!

Loan Player duh! any player under 33 and 4 months whose father was only 45 and grandfather was only 78 but easy to wind up.

There's a Bill Pocock, born in Bristol 24.2.1884 in 'Bristol City Football Club The First Hundred Years'.

Signed from St.Francis June 1919, moved to St Johnstone July 1926.

From 1919/20 - 1925/26, he made 255 apps. for City in all competitions, scoring 47 goals.

I didn't know that City were in the FA Cup semi final in 1919- 20, until looking up this fella's record, another "could have been" moment in the history of the club

The brothers of both Jo Durie and Robin Cousins were friends of my brother at school so I met both of them.

In fact I used to go on week long sporting themed holidays away from Bristol in the school hols. and Robin Cousins turned up at the age of 12/13 even though, apart from his ice skating he wasn't very sporty.

He was already known for his ice skating so was ribbed throughout 'watch your ankles Robin!'

Kevin Mabbutt (and his younger brother) joined my primary school at the start of my final year but he didn't displace me from my position as the resident school team striker!

He was an old schoolmate of mine as well, a very nice lad was 'Chuck'.
