Used to live near Glenn. He played a concert at New Year's Eve in my local pub this year, was specialist guest at Christopher Hollands gig (son of Jools).

Sadly the pub has now shut down (pre corona, bloody greedy landlords!).

We really are Up The Junction, after all

I love Squeeze, they were quality.

Love that song, I bought it on purple (or is it mauve, or perhaps lilac?) coloured vinyl when it came out, and still have it.

There was an explosion of creativity in Britain in the late 70s on the back of the 'new wave' and Squeeze were up there with the best of them.

One of the first bands I saw at the Colston Hall, 1979 I think. I also caught Glenn Tilbrook at the Fiddlers in Bedminster sometime in the mid 90s, one of my favourite gigs. Genius.

I remember pre-ordering Cool For Cats from WH Smiths in Taunton after hearing it on, I think, John Peel. I remember telling the bloke on the counter that he ought to order a few in as it was going to be huge!

Strawberry milkshake pink vinyl, quality!

Chris & Glen used to be on Danny Baker`s show fairly frequently (he grew up with them in Deptford) and they were always good value. There is a very good Sky Arts(?) documentary on the band from a few years back which is worth seeking out too - if nothing else, you can have a right chuckle at Glen`s feeble attempt at growing a beard!

Anyone on here know if Difford is a footy fan? I'm pretty sure i have heard that Tilbrook is a big Charlton fan, I could have this wrong.

Glenn is. That's where he still lives.

Wholeheartedly concur with this thread. The band has been creating great music for more years than many and long may they continue. They may have had a bit of a knockabout pub band reputation but that badly misses out the talent and the genuinely different style they have. Top stuff.

I thought Chris Holland was Jools' brother?

Saw them as a support band to my heroes Dr Feelgood at the Colston. I was so impressed with Squeeze that I went and bought their debut album. What a mess it is. No wonder the band knew they could do better, so recorded Take Me I'm Yours without their producer, Mr John Cale. He wanted them to be a punk sounding band.

The B Side to Take Me is Night Nurse. Written by Jools and it is superb especially if you like boogie, new wave style.

Have seen them many a time. Best though was at the Colston around 1993. For their encore, Glenn announced that they'd had many a famous keyboardist playing for them. He then announced them all in order (Paul Carrack was on duty that night) before saying, "Would you please welcome on stage tonight, Mr Elton John." There was a hushed silence then the scream that went up, when the Watford Chairman walked on stage right, was deafening.

That Squeeze line-up did two covers, I saw her Standing There and I Heard It Through The Grapevine.

Why was Elton in the band I hear you ask. Apparently, Chris Difford was helping him with some lyrics so asked him.

In a weird way I don’t mind that first album. It’s not Squeeze really but I still enjoyed it.

I saw them at the back end of last year in Cardiff, supported by Heaven 17. It ws a great gig, they've still got it!

Best support for Squeeze I’ve seen in a while - lightning seeds were good too a few years ago.

That debut is a cracking album. I really love it. Some really great songs and lyrics on that one.

Bang Bang, Model, Out Of Control, First Thing Wrong...  the list goes on...

I reckon it's great.

Quick question for you Squeeze aficionados...

Who is it that calls  "Bring out your dead, bring out your dead" at the beginning of The Call?

I'll be honest, i don't know the answer.

Yolanda Charles is an insanely good player. And easy on the eye when onstage.

Yep! Agreed on both. I'm a massive fan of DIY / unsigned grunge bands, they're sometimes after a dep bassist as they all have say jobs. Wondered about tapping her up as and when, then I saw who she had played / toured with - somehow don't think playing at the Mothers Ruin would be her bag now!
