Ok, I've got one that I think has ALL excellent tracks, although it is a very short album...

The Shins - Oh, Inverted World

Superb album

You would have to choose an album I've never heard of!

Roads Circle The Globe is far better than Nihilon. I think that whilst Generals And Majors (which has to be played at 11) is on Black Sea, Drums and Wires wins by a nose. If there was one original album art cover I could own, it would be this one or the Selling England painting!

Sometimes I have found that a track on an album that I never used to like, starts to become one i really like.

She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettos) - Sheer Heart Attack. never used to like it, now i LOVE it.

There is no duff track on SHA.

Just heard it again on YT. Astonishing track.

One of my top five Genesis albums

Going off to Youtube for a listen. There is some serious musicianship on that album...

Remember too, that these guys were in their early twenties when they made this.

Definitely on my desert island albums list

Ocean Rain rather than Crocodiles?
Closer rather than Unknown Pleasures?
Darklands rather than Psycho Candy?
The Suburbs rather than Neon Bible?
17 Seconds rather than Head On The Door?

This close to offering you outside.....?

Really tricky to pick 10, most Pink Floyd albums need to be considered.

My few picks -

Pink Floyd - Animals (why hasnt anyone mentioned this one?)

Radiohead - In Rainbows

Bob Marley - Legend

Pink Floyd - The Final Cut

Oasis - Definitely Maybe

Ocean Colour Scene - Moseley Shoals

Tricky - Ununiform

Gravediggaz - Six feet deep

Prodigy - Experience

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

I am loving this thread, and did my list earlier but, as many have pointed out, their are so many great albums that mean so much to us that it is almost impossible to list a top 10 without leaving out about 200 other serious contenders.  What I have done here is made a list of some of my absolute favourite albums that have (as far as I can see) not yet received a mention on this thread.  So, in no particular order:-

Elton John -  Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road deserves a shout as well.

Simple Minds - New Gold Dream

Seal - 1st 2 Albums, cannot separate them.

REM - Automatic for the People

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By The Way

Kate Bush -  Never For Ever

Joni Mitchell - Blue

Beatles - Rubber Soul

10cc - Sheet Music

Brian Wilson presents Smile

Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

John Lennon and The Plastic Ono Band, eponymous album - the one with "Mother" and "Working Class Hero", with Imagine being a good shout as well.

Love - Forever Changes

Grace Slick, Paul Kantner and David Freiberg - Barron Von Tollbuth and The Chrome Nun.

Billy Joel - The Stranger

I will stop there, as otherwise I will end up listing all my albums.

Just another observation, when adding the Elton John album, noticed that, for such a huge artist with an incredible back catalogue of albums EJ has hardly been mentioned, same goes for Fleetwood Mac, not even a mention of Rumours, which is one of the biggest selling albums of all time. And no mention, as far as I can see, of the original soundtracks for Saturday Night Fever, Grease or The Sound of Music, which were all mega sellers (as well as being iconic films) in their time.

I think I actually enjoy discussing music more than football!!

Many people simply do not get VDGG - I think they are superb although I am struggling with the latest album

My plans to see them in Bath were scuppered by C-19 - hopefully rearranged

Great post thanks - here is one for everyone

This is a great thread.  I keep getting requests on my Facebook account to share my top 7 albums and post the covers one day at a time and nominate another FB friend to do the same, but never take the nomination up as 1) my laptop is a bit knackered after I spilt a can of Tyskie over it so I have trouble pasting album covers on FB and 2) I can't be arsed to put pressure on someone else who doesn't really want to do it either! Anyway here's my 10 and, of course this will vary from day to day depending on mood etc. Would say that the top 5 will always be in the top 10 whatever my mood.. One rule I have stipulated for my own list is different artists for each selection.

1 - Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

2 - Beatles - Revolver

3 - Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid

4 - Joni Mitchell- Hejira

5 - Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing At Baxter's

6 - Velvet Underground and Nico - Andy Warhol Banana Cover (otherwise known as Velvet Underground and Nico!)

7 - David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and  The Spiders From Mars

8 - U2- The Unforgettable Fire

9 - The Who - Who's Next

10 - Stevie Wonder - Talking Book

Well that saved me bothering, I’d probably switch out Jefferson Airplane for Suede’s ‘Dog Man Star’ and The Who for ‘His and Hers’ by Pulp. That’s just because those two albums defined my era.

I could not live in a world without Pet Sounds, Bowie and Velvet Underground and Nico.

I ordered Pet Sounds on vinyl the other day. Looking forward to it arriving.

I haven’t a decent deck anymore, so stuck with digital. V. Jealous!

My wife bought me a new deck, amp and speakers at Christmas last year. Has breathed life into a vinyl collection held in storage for over 2 decades.

Managed to find a NAD cassette deck on ebay that has done the same thing with my bootleg tape collection.

Did plenty of research on how to clean vinyl especially if it hasn't been played in years!

My no1 choice now is a few drops of Fairy Liquid, a very soft paint brush (2 inches width) and plenty of running water. A very soft cloth to pat dry et voila!

I'll gladly send you a video I made how to do it which also has a before and after test!

I ordered a copy  the other week but God only knows when it will turn up.

I'm Waiting For The Day when it arrives and Wouldn't It Be Nice if it was Here Today. I rang the delivery company for an update as I know There's An Answer but my patience is wearing thin and although I appreciate things are difficult just now I Just Wasn't Made for These Times.

In my frustration I turned to Mrs Downend and asked her " You Still Believe in Me?". She replied " Don't Talk - Put Your Head on my Shoulder and when all this is over Let's Go Away for a While. I can't be having all that lovely dovey stuff - That's Not Me.
