As far as I know the shirt was made specifically for that game and was used with the old P&L Nibor/Robin kit shorts and socks. The shirt was sold in a very limited batch of Adult only sizes. I've seen it appear a couple of times on Ebay so there are some in existence, but they normally crop up in silly XL/XXL sizing, which due to the fashions of the time are like tents! Is that sig's I can see on the B.C.F.C.82 shirt? Here's my prize possession in my modest collection, which you might appreciate. Andy Cole's playing shirt (denoted by the embroidered badge rather than printed as it was on the replica shirts) from the season he first came on loan to us, signed by the great man himself... Strange one that...? As we only had 2 sub shirts back then 12 & 14. And Andy Cole only wore No 9 that season.

And Andy Cole only wore No 9 that season. I've researched this one before buying because I too was sceptical. He joined in March 1992 at the tail end of the 91/92 season (coming from Fulham). This is the shirt/number he was allocated/given on arrival for the final few matches before they'd sorted what shirt number he'd be wearing In 92/93 when we moved to the first iteration of Purple and Lime (with TS sponsor), that's when he was given the No 9 shirt. He wore this number because the number of subs were fixed, but the shirt numbers weren't, so you could have 3 subs with varying numbers. the only mandatory thing was the starting line up had to be 1-11, so you could have subs with other numbers. Squad numbers were introduced (not mandatory) in 93. At the end of the 91/92 season the shirt was given back to the club and kept in storage (by Beryl Fudge) and when Andy left it was signed by him along with other playing shirts of his and snapped up by various people who managed to get first refusal. I purchased it from one of those people and I contacted the club to verify/trace through the history of it.

Andy Cole didn't make any sub appearances in the 12 games he played on loan for us that season - as shown below...

I'm not saying he wore this shirt all season, I'm saying this was the shirt he was first given. When he first joined Wayne had lost his place as the starting number 9 and that was being shared around, so Andy was given this 16 shirt until it was agreed which numbers him and Wayne etc would play in. There was a very short period of time where he wore this shirt in various promo, training, and also in a couple of matches. I've had this verified by the club (from their records) and other sources, so I'm happy. The player's shirts of that time were very different to replicas, badgers were sewn (not plastic & glue pressed), numbers were flocked, collar has different stud presses and the shape of the shirts is slightly different, which means placement of badges etc.
