Announcing a new signing (or a contract extension) at the same time as the shirt would have diluted the key message delivered with the unveiling.  I don't think having existing players do the unveiling means anything at all personally.

This is a good point actually, agreed. The kit this year definitely has a key message and honouring an important part of the club's history. Announcing something like a contract extension could actually be seen as quite offensive to the eight.

"Thanks for ripping up your contract and putting your family at risk years ago, we've just splurged £5m on a player"

Am I the only one who could not give a flying **** what the kit looks like? Grown men buying football kits to wear themselves is weird

Grown men obsessing about their team and getting angry if they don't win, angrier if they miss out on promotion and then posting on a forum is weirder.

I like the look of the shirt and would be happy to see the 8 get a %tage of sales. Unfortunately I'm 58 years of age and waaaaaaayyyyyy too old to wear a Football Shirt. I'll stick to Polo Shirts

Been a rare good run from the club in terms of news.

  • Positively received signing in Chris Martin - pretty tasteful reveal too, the twitter admin only went OTT once or twice
  • Fairly unanimously accepted resolution to the ST issue
  • Positively received kit and nice launch

Just wait until we lose 3-0 tomorrow.

Seems a decent kit.

Like the AG8 touch. I've been a bit wary of the club/Bristol Sport in the past seemingly airbrushing aspects of history- this was a notable and very nearly dark period in our history- a world away from the shiny Bristol Sport- so fair enough on that.

Pedant alert.....sorry....I agree with that, except is wasn't "very nearly" a dark period.  It was a dark period.  We just happened to come through it, thanks in a large part to the Eight.

TBF, I think that was down to Jon Lansdown.

You cared enough to shitpost about it. Who is weirder, really?

I was intrigued to see why the topic was hot. Thought something interesting may have happened, but no, just people talking about if they like the design of a shirt that the vast majority will never own or wear.

I do genuinely find it weird when I see adults wearing football shirts though. Why do people feel the need to display which team they support? Surely attending games and supporting the team will suffice?

I wear polo shirts, and I don’t even like polo.

Doesn't really matter to you does it. Personally I wouldn't buy one, I quite like the training wear for the gym, but it doesn't really matter to me what people do.

Are the Ashton Gate 8 and their families receiving anything for their part in the design of this kit?

The commercialisation of this sorrowful chapter of our history doesn’t sit well with me otherwise.

That was my first thought. Surely they must have received something.
