Couldn't agree more. Why take the risk on him when, as others have mentioned, you have two young guys tearing it up in the league below who play in the same position and are presumably chomping at the bit to get recalled and given a go.

Especially when we are supposedly a club keen to promote youth and big up our 'player pathway'.

Just doesn't make any sense!

Similar situation with Benkovic - brought in on no doubt a much higher wage than existing options (TM / Zak) and so far has not improved us.

Appreciate that not every loan will work but we are wasteful of the resources we have available.

Perhaps with Benkovic along with a lot of others, the problem isn't necessarily the player

It was a gamble, and we lost it: the delay caused by Covid led to him being free to go elsewhere, but even without this problem probably he wouldn't have played much. Shame we didn't recall Morell/Walsh too (as a cover), but maybe there was a reason behind that choice (money? size of the team?).

No one truly knows whether there was a major falling out or who is to blame if so, although there are many who'd like to blame LJ for the grass daring to grow. All we know is that he had a problem with the management at Hull and after coming here was good against Derby but absolutely dreadful at Huddersfield. I'm truly ambivalent to him leaving.

Yeah the pathway is looking decidedly narrow... pathway to loans elsewhere is working but I wonder how many academy players have made their debuts since we got promoted - feels like less than one a year and none have established themselves. Does anyone know?

Question is how much is down to Johnson vs 'others'. Assuming he selected these players then there cant continue to be excuses.

I would be very cautious about what he is able to spend in the summer. Barring a couple of trades due to contract situations, I believe he should be told this is your squad now get the best out of them. That should mean developing the younger playes by playing them - if that results in a mid table finish then after 5 years it will be time to move on.

At a time of financial and virus uncertainty, his budget should be zero. Just go with what we have and make the best of it

I would imagine you could’ve brought both Walsh and Morrell back for Henriksen’s wage.

Surely, but maybe not Henriksen + one of them. Talking about wages, probably the change T.Moore-Benkovic influenced our midfield trasnfers too.

Exactly. Johnson must have  "mystical models" in his head of what all our players should be. Almost complete inability  to assess what we have and use it to the best realistic outcome.

Benkovic like Henriksenn (both internationals) is a typical example of wasting a loan signing, A neighbour who is a Leicester City fan said we were extremely lucky to land Benkovic as loanee. Can he really not deserve a start over those useless clots who failed to head away the cross for Blackburn's first on saturday.

Should’ve brought Morrell back imo, Walsh should’ve stayed at Cov as he had something to play for.

When are we going to see this pathway reopened? The chocolate path by spike island is currently more easily navigated!

Agree totally.

Morrell could also have been the home produced player in the 18 (now 20) & with Korey having struggled to stay fit in the last 2 seasons, it was the obvious move.

We have been a bit unfortunate that so many recent sales (Reid, Bryan, Kelly) fitted that category, but as the shoehorning of Semenyo into the squad often earlier in the season showed, we haven’t handled this very well.

We commit ourselves to loans out too early in the summer.  If the players are sought after, clubs will wait for them.

Crazy, on today's showing, can't be worse than Massengo and Smith.

Smith wasn't bad for someone lacking match sharpness. Massengo gets a lot of stick but he's 18 and better than half our squad right now. We need a wide man of Eliasson's quality on the other side and a magic man at 10.
