The degree of Warnock love on this forum is frankly embarrassing.

If we had better refs and retrospective cards given for simulation, time-wasting and other forms of cheating, Warnock would not have achieved half of what he has.

I'm glad we will never have to see a City side play his brand of anti-football.

It gets promotion though

But not long-term success.

I slated Warnock in my first post, but where I'll give him plaudits is in the way he can galvanize a team under the cosh. The "firefighter manager" who can pick up unfancied players who've experienced multiple losses and give them self-belief again. He IS Mr Motivator for underperforming players. He does build team morale.

I really rate that side of his game. It's something Lee Johnson cannot do.

But I can't condone a manager who asks his players to feign injuries etc. It's not what the game should be about.

I agree with this and think it sums up Warnock pretty fairly. However the gamesmanship side of things is something we are very naive about and it frequently catches us out and wears us down. Maybe we need to be a bit more savvy and do it to other teams. I hate that side of football but maybe if you can't beat them, join them.

Well, there's gamesmanship and there's encouraging outright cheating.  NW has been firmly in the latter camp for long periods of his career.

Ironically, Cardiff - where he had probably the most talented pool of players at his disposal for any time in his career - showed he doesn't HAVE to do that.

From what I've seen of him lately, he's a specialist in keeping teams up and nothing more.

Thats strange, is he not the manager with most promotions? As well as keeping teams up.   I concur re Rotherham, he describes as his best ever achievement when  they were doomed.  Took over a struggling Cardiff team going no where to promotion the next season.

Another great result for St. Colin

Yep, 2 defeats on the spin, against the mighty Hull (the only team with a worse record than us in 2020) & QPR.

What a genius he is.

Great managers stay with a club and build it up and up - like Alex Ferguson.

Colin has a lot of promotions because he rarely succeeds afterwards - he tends to fail or walk during the season following the promotion.

He has managed more clubs than almost anybody and that’s because his plan has no staying power.

I would have no problem if he comes to Ashton Gate , it won’t happen though. I’ve always admired what he has achieved as a manager at unfashionable clubs . He would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons . He would unpopular with a fair few on here as they think he cheats and takes gamesmanship and sportsmanship to a different level .
If we ever go up you would see this type of stuff week in week out anyway.

We don't need Neil Warnock for a lifetime, we need him/the likes of him for a promotion.  Then SL can bring in ANO for whatever the philosophy is. Any philosophy to-date has not resulted in Premier League football and that is the stated ambition.  So do we continue to bring in a new manager, new philosophy, revolving players, more capital spend OR DO WE bring in a manager to manage!!!!!!!!!!!

CIty have good players, but they do not seem to be executing on their ability.  Someone who can manage people/players to a successful outcome is what will take us up.  That over a season, not three games a Boro, is what Warnock does best. Thereafter, with any promoted side, it becomes a lottery, but at least City would be £100million+ better off prior to spend.

It is all about promotion, what SL spends once there is a gamble.

Warnock would get us into the playoffs and maybe beyond. However, we would be bringing in players like Greg Halford... plus he’s not a yes man and would challenge Lansdown with his demands. So it will never happen!

He loves being an underdog Neil, he might well get you promoted but can he keep you there? In all fairness he didn’t spend much and if we took Murphy out of the equation then he spent barely anything by PL standards.

hes best at picking up mendez laings from Rochdale, hoilett on a free, even tomlin was cheap, as was Bamba, etheridge and Paterson.  He can get you up with this lot, a modest wage bill of say 25/30 million but then to compete at PL level the minimum wage appears to be about 60/70 million. Hard to make that jump and find players who will Come for a battle.
Also, with his base in Cornwall I guess you missed the boat there. I think he’s also lost a bit after the Sala tragedy, he’s 71 now too I think, he should just chill out in Cornwall I reckon.
