Odd how things work out...Tomlin assist- Johnson gone

Johnson got that win at Cardiff, saw the end of Warnock.

Now Cardiff returned the favour- Tomlin the creator- saw the end of LJ!

(If already covered, apologies- please merge into appropriate thread etc).

7 goals and 9 assists this season Tomlin- Harris in particular, has certainly got a tune out of him! Wonder what the truth behind all that really was...

Dont think Lee can handle big characters.

Harris is getting a tune out of him- some managers do, some managers don't.

I didn't hold LJ responsible for Tomlin not working out at the time so I won't go hypocritical and say he should have made it work better- Tomlin himself, could certainly ability wise have played PL reasonably IMO. Himself to blame- yet first 3 months of 2016/17 and the loan spell he was rather good- could pick bits of magic but I trust LJ did what was right for the club in that scenario, ultimately.

That penalty miss vs Burton...I always wonder if it was deliberate.

Tomlin claimed he had struggled with his mental health for a while, once he overcame he he got a lot fitter and lost a fair bit of weight, no doubt helping his performance football wise

He had to go but I do feel for him, must feel as sick as a pig tonight.

Everyone out for his blood off and on the pitch.

I simply cannot feel sorry for the guy. He has lost his job as a football manager and, as such, receives the remaining 3 or so years of his £50k a year or so salary for effectively failing.

Meanwhile in the real world we are facing a monstrous economic downturn. Supporters having forked out £2k for the family season tickets now furloughed or out of a job and no prospect of a refund......they must feel more pig sick tonight and I can feel sorry for them!!!!

I wish no ill towards LJ but feel sorry for him cos he got shouted at a few times by frustrated football fans resulting in a nice bit of gardening leave and a circa £1.5m plus payout? Not for me.....

The OSIB "a cider with Wilbraham" podcast gave a small insight into the goings on with tomlin.

Basically it sounds like he's the kind of character who tries to push the rules to see what extra he can get away with (we all know these characters in everyday life, so why would football be any different?)

The example given by wilbs was tomlins use of his mobile in the canteen, but like a naughty kid u can imagine once that inch was given, miles began to be taken (perhaps the reason tomlin got away with being blatantly overweight whilst here)

It's a pretty good example of one of johnson's biggest failings: not being able (or willing, or both) to challenge the more experienced or talented players.

It's ironic, or perhaps quite fitting, that it happens to be one of those players that had a hand in his eventual downfall

That’s a pretty narrow minded opinion. It’s not always about money. LJ clearly loves the club and he's obviously going to be more emotionally hurt than financially. I feel sorry for him because he clearly worked very hard but for whatever reason it didn’t work out. Don’t be a dick.

Why name calling? Most don't appear to be concerned about a millionaire football/property owner getting the long overdue sack.

He loved the cash cow and nepotism that was Bristol City but if he'd had the ability to attract a better option he'd have been off like a shot and nobody could have blamed him.

If he'd had the love for the club you claim he would have done the right thing and resigned when it was clear he wasn't up to the task.

Why so offended? ??? Think you’ll find I was telling him not to be a dick, quite the contrary of calling him one. Duh.

Please remember that even for Cardiff Tomlin is sat on the bench most weeks. They haven't turned him into Le Tissier, just a skilful maverick they can throw on if they're desperate

I feel sorry for the guy. Like I would any one else either walking out of a job or being sacked by the boss. I reckon it was a mutual understanding. OK he will get a pay out and lets hope he takes time off with his family and takes stock where he went wrong. If he is honest with himself he will all ready be aware that he is not as good as a manager as he thought he was. Bristol city FC deserve a quality proven manager that has managed in the Premership to take the club to where it needs to be. LJ not being at the club any more is better all round as we were playing matches since October last year with no consistency and failed to maintain quality football for more than ten minutes at a time and we let clubs break us down to easily.

With the family season tickets this is probably very similar for all supporters of many clubs across the country where everyone is doing it tough.

Did you mean £500k-a-year contract? I heard his last deal was worth £600k a year. Three years left = £1.8m payout. No way he was on £50k pa.

I thank him for efforts but don’t feel sorry for LJ at all. He’s a millionaire, a landlord on the side, and walked off into the sunset presumably with a whopping golden handshake.

All the best for the future, except against us.

In football it always is about money these days. Football Management at Championship level is a very stressful but also very highly rewarded JOB. That’s what it is, a job that sets your family up literally for life. Working hard is a given when you are earning £600k a year, surely?

When a higher end football manager takes £15k per week he knows the pitfalls and also knows that for a few months of stress that goes with a bad run he’ll be compensated for the remainder of his contract. He also knows that he’ll get the adulation if things go well. It’s the job.

Many people in football (I’m talking from experience) see the fans as mugs, people who’ve hardly kicked a ball in anger and know nothing!!

As a result, I find it difficult to feel sorry for someone who has worked hard (as per the job description) and walked away with a seven figure “compensation” payout when relieved of his duties because he simply wasn’t delivering. Good luck to the guy? Absolute. Cry in my cornflakes? Not for me.

I meant £50k per month. Can’t see that figure being way out.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Either way, I agree with your post - it’s hard to have any sympathy for him.

Exactly and let’s get it right, many of us fans that do love the club would revise our love if we were on thousands a week and also wait to get the push with the nice payout.....then go back to loving the club after!!!!!

Until people realise having money doesn’t prevent significant life events impacting mental well being; mental health will always be a stigma.

Lee Johnson will be hurting this morning. He left the club in a better state then when he joined it.

This is what makes top managers and mediocre managers - those that can handle players like Tomlin and get the best out of them tend to be successful.

Just like managing difficult colleagues at work. Fergie writes about it in his book.

Agreed that everyone goes through significant life events that affect their mental well being. Everyone. However I would suggest that losing your job and being unable to pay bills, service the mortgage, put food on the table, socialise with your partner/mates etc. presents a higher risk to long term mental wellbeing overall than losing your job and being paid £1m plus where you can still probably manage most of the above.

Does being well paid stop you getting a cold, too?

Having loads of money doesn’t give you immunity to poor health, be that physical or mental. To suggest otherwise is complete nonsense

Not suggesting otherwise. I’m suggesting that some people are at higher RISK than others. Not the same is it?

The guy loves the club, it simply has nothing to do with money. You can feel sorry for those supporters as well as LJ, they aren’t mutually exclusive.
