MC RISK77
Without doubt he is an exceptional talent but just out of interest their best player ever is Trevor Francis who ended up being the uk first £1m pound player, is his number retired? cityexile
This sounds like the football equivalent of getting a tattoo of your ex girlfriends name that you went out with for six months.
TonyTonyTony
Great story. In one story they have revealed themselves to be utter knobs. The whole football world is laughing. Thankfully for their supporters 22 is about 15 more than they can count up to so they wont even notice

Fee was over £20m and could rise to £30m! Very slight. But if it’s enough, then who are the fans to argue?

One Team In Keynsham
It would be less embarrassing had they retired #20 to honour the millions Dortmund paid.
Taz
Out of interest, how are (were) Birmingham financially before this transfer? Got a feeling they've been on a downward spiral on and off the pitch recently? Could it be that this transfer has just saved their asses? That's another take on them retiring the shirt - the kids saved the club from going under!! It's a slightly less tinpot reason anyway. Even Rovers are laughing at them - Wally's just pee'd his pants!!

YGBjammy
Honestly so embarrassing. We've seen so many players of that age come to nothing, or just become a run of the mill mid table premier league player. Why didn't we retire Lloyd Kelly's number
Swede
When you think of Birmingham City I would have thought if any shirt number needs "retiring" it would be the number 8 as this was worn by Trevor Francis, arguably their best ever player who saved them on numerous occasions with his goals from relegation from the old first division. He will be forever remembered as the first £1 million transfer who's goal won the European Cup for his new club.

I understood it, even if no one else did. I wonder if he stopped at Bisto North on his way to Germany.

Might give that extra little boost. Yes it would have been something for their next hotshot to aspire to. Had he won them promotion and the fa cup then there would be some consideration at least. Remember Dale jennings? Tranmere to Bayern Munich at the same age. Tranmere didn't retire his shirt. According to Wikipedia, he's now 27 and playing for Runcorn.

OK it may go to the head of one or two players, but if football is about the small margins, this is another one.
sglosbcfc
Time has now passed, please someone tell me this was a joke/wind up? If not, Villa fans will have a field day on Monday (if they avoid relegation first) and Baggies fans must be already making hay.
