Seems another who has reached enough maturity to realise what he could have been if he wasn’t distracted by music etc. Maybe he should have put a bit more effort in at the time. Too late for us now Jay, thanks for the memories but we’ve long moved on and he should too.

It hasn't gone well for him since leaving. However, we currently have two strikers (Fam and Wells) and one of those seems likely to leave. Granted we have other options in Weimann and Watkins but both seem better suited to other positions.

I would offer him a trial and see what happens. JET isn't going to be a starting striker for us but could be a useful squad player if he still has the talent he showed for us first time around. His biggest asset was the ability to shoot from range, something we have seriously lacked this season.

Free agent, 29 years old. Could be a very cheap contract as he has stated he would love to come back.

So far we have lost two strikers in Taylor and Afobe. Potentially a third leaving (Fam), numbers are going to be key this season and we aren't going to have much spending power unless players are sold.

If he performs well during the trial and is given a cheap contract, we have another option from the bench and allows us to spend any money raised from the potential sells of Fam and Elliason on key areas (Centre mid, Right back, back up striker etc).

If the trial doesn't go well then we shake hands (or bump elbows, whatever we currently do because of Covid) and go our separate ways. I was disappointed to lose him the first time around, thought he would have been a good option for us in the first season back in the championship.

Other option could be Chris Martin on a free but he would be on hefty wages. Or I would be interested to see Szmodics move up top as he played a similar role during his time at Peterborough.

Loved him as a player since him and Billy Sharp tore us apart for Doncaster years ago. Best strike partnership I’ve ever seen at Ashton Gate.

Been away too long unfortunately and at nowhere near the standard necessary. Nice to dream.

Why discount him? Look at Tomlin @ Cardiff. At least it would be someone who wanted to play here. I think even SL had a grudging liking for him, especially as his presence at the Basketball gave publicity to The Flyers.

Good point regarding the comparison with Tomlin. Sticks in the throat a bit to admit it, but he’s turned one or two games for them in a moment and is one of the results they scraped into the playoffs.

As talented as he is, to cut it at the top end of the Championship these days, you need to be very fit and consistent in your performances.

Not 2 of JET's strongest attributes unfortunately.

If he was up to standard to play in the championship then maybe a trial. But let’s take off the rose tinted glasses. Since leaving us he has gone on to do nothing. Had a chance after us with QPR and got loaned out to MK dons and Gillingham. Then ended up in Asia or somewhere.

On his day he was fantastic but Cotts mainly only used him as sub.

But I’m more interested in who he is alluding to be announced?

I don't disagree, but 'not up to standard' jeeeessss

Quite right. Not advocating JET’s return or anything, but the comment you were responding to was breathtakingly stupid, even by OTIB standards.

What a player. The gifted or identified as being mercurial type player in these days seems to mean unplayable or trouble.

But it's exactly gifted players like him that excites fans and make you want to pay to watch.

People have many different views on so called mavericks like JET, Jacki & Trunds but in my opinion they should be marvelled at when you have the opportunity to see them play for however brief they wear the shirt.

Totally agree.

Could really score a goal as well, happily watch his strike away at Tamworth in the FA Cup over and over again.

However much people liked him I can't believe even his biggest fans want him back now.

He's been playing in Thailand! No one wants him.

Probably a higher standard than you'd expect, but not by much. He certainly didn't seem to tear it up here.

Well, he’s probably still better than Marley Watkins

There’s a reason why one has forged himself a career at championship/league one level and the other couldn’t get a contract at Cheltenham...

I don’t think there’s a player whose signing would excite me more. However, and it pains me so much to say it, he couldn’t get in the team.

He is a Bristol City legend in my eyes. Probably the most exciting player in... forever. Whenever he got the ball you just knew he’d do something that would justify the ticket price and boy could LJ have done with that in his team!

But, as I alluded to, JET’s championship minutes for the rest of his career will be the same as mine.

I remember Notts County at home. Think we won 4-0.

Notts County were absolutely terrible. Think they had a team of kids out. And pretty sure they went down that season.

We were the best team in the division with attacking threats coming from all angles.

In such a game against poor opponents with a buzzing crowd, it suited JET. He could do what he wanted with better players we had against a poor opponent.

But I remember that season there was a one game in particular he came on and we were defending for our lives against someone, can't remember who.

He came on and clearly was trying to lead the line and I could see he really was trying. But he looked even more knackered than the rest of our very knackered team after just doing a few sprints.

He mainly walked about up front whilst the rest of our team tried to see the game out.

Now he will surely be far worse than he was then with such inactivity. His body even in his prime could not seem to cope with the fitness levels required.

We let him go for nothing because Agard was ahead of him, who wasn't good enough either for championship.

JET scored some amazing goals. But at championship level now? Surely not.

Interestingly, Mick McCarthy once said of JET "One day he looks like a world beater, the next day a panel beater".  I always liked that quote. Doubtful we'll see JET back anytime soon.

Surprised to see you post after the "Hughton is a done deal, will be announced Monday morning" stuff you were posting over the weekend.

Yeah probably more chance of sticking JET in the manager thread tbh

Ah yes let's disregard 9 years of JET's career at "Championship/League One level" because of one failed trial.

Especially when comparing it with Marley Watkins' *checks notes* 5 seasons in his career at said level.

Absolute idiot.

33 goals / assists in 2013/14 in the equivalent of 49 full games. 4401 minutes.

20 goals / assists in 2014/15 in 22 full games. 1941 minutes.

WTF are you on about?

What league were we playing in at the time? The idea that he could do a job at the top end of the championship is hilarious.

And btw the reason fewer games in 14/15 was because he was being kept out of the team by Agard, Matt Smith and others. So wasn’t only me that felt he wasn’t up to it then either!

Would I have a player with that much talent, who WANTS to play for City on a trial basis during pre season, definitely. Would I sign him, quite simply depends on the trial. No brainer for me. What would we have to lose? COYR

JET had 9 years at this level, fair point. Main issue is he hasn’t played at this level for 4 years, has spent time in Thailand and failed to get a contract at Cheltenham.

A much more talented player than Marley but his lack of work ethic and desire is why he’s currently a free agent whilst Marley is playing championship football.

No need for your last sentence, just because you have a differing opinion, doesn’t make either of us an ‘absolute idiot’
