Purely down to Covid/costs. Our spanking new ground will be earning zero money, zilch. We will be oozing money from every orifice. No way can we pay a big name during these uncertain times. Disappointing but completely understandable.

But we can afford to pay a man who no longer works here? If Covid is the reason then we should have kept Johnson, or sacked him and appointed Holden straight away. But we didn't so they can't really claim Covid as a justification.

Forgive me here but am I missing something as todays article in evening post sounds like the search continues with Hughton still in frame? Maybe I am desperate for any positive news

We do not differ that much. We both support Bristol City but I am am prepared to support the club in its choices because I am unable to change them. You seem to have conditional support if they support your notion of who to employ as manager.  I believer that I am the realist here.

You'd make an excellent communist Bat, you daft leftie ?

It'll be interestinteresting our transfer dealings are equally... ahem prudent, and if we put faith in the squad we have. It'll be a tough job for a gaffer of any stature to secure top 6 without a couple of good additions I reckon. Could be wrong.

But he did apply?

So he probably knew what he was getting into.

If he’d been appointed a month ago, with the club citing COVID-19 and financial restrictions then, I think fans would’ve been a great deal more sympathetic and understanding than they will be when his appointment is eventually announced.

The club have absolutely killed him with the recruitment process.

Sure I read that he was on a plane having been offered the job and by the time he got off Pulis had it.

Yes I thought he had cut short his holiday and flew back only to be told it was too late. I would have told us to get stuffed personally.

Totally this. Unfortunately for him if he starts it will be with the noose already around his neck

We want the best man for the job from amongst those people who want to do the job.  You have no idea who was in the running, and you cannot force someone to take a job they are not interested in.  This is the real world here, at a particularly difficult time.

So out if the 100 or so applications Holden is the best one for the job who wanted to do it? If you believe that then you are naive at best.

We have to trust that the board are doing their best for the club - why wouldn’t they? We have to accept their decisions but we can criticise them and have our opinions as part of a healthy debate. All without being abusive or unpleasant.

It’s quite simple really.

Bloody insult!!

But you are right about the squad.  Someone has to have views about players, how they might develop and how they might be sold for a profit after providing sterling service. Agents will try to sell sows ears as silken purses and our people will have to make the final choices from what is available on our budget. We certainly look pretty small and weak as a squad - especially if we lose Famara, who offers sterling service in defending set plays. I expect there will be lots of free transfers around, although many may not fit our normal criteria. We shall just have to support whatever they put on the pitch.

Spot on.

Whatever my thoughts on him being appointed, his options appear to be either take the top job or make yourself unemployed.

In those circumstances you can completely understand why he would take it.

I can't see where else Holden gets a job if he leaves City, he really wouldn't want to be unemployed now as football clubs with going out of buisness in the near future

I may also be naive but I still just don’t see how Holden is going to get the job. If he was, surely they wouldn’t sack J Mac just before? It’s not like Holden has a ready made Assistant he has to bring with him. It suggests to me theres more to this, J Mac has been moved aside for someone new to step in and Holden to continue as Assistant.
Either that or Holden hasn’t enjoyed working with Mac and that was part of the deal and the delay is him forming his own team. However, that would also suggest he has accepted the role and if that was the case surely it would have been announced and his back room staff appointments would be announced in time as and when they happened. Nothing about a Holden appointment make sense in the timings of events. The only reason people think is is because of what Gregor is posting however he is clearly being fed tit bits by the club to keep him interested and develop this on going drama. I really think there could still be a major twist in all this.

If it's true and he has had the weekend to think about it, even that is poor handling of the situation and abit schoolboy from City, as surely if you applied for the job, had the interview and put yourself through that process, then you must want the position, so what is there to think about and mull over during the course of the weekend

You either want the job or not, the fact they are suggesting he has time to think about it doesn't fill me with any confidence and should worry the players that he doesn't even have the drive and determination to even take this role

He applied or was asked to apply when there was no massive outcry about him.

The reaction has really blown up since he has been in the frame and that would put me off pursuing the position.

Good luck to him if he takes the job I think its Lansdowns way of saying up yours to the fans because I see us in league 1 before the prem, Lee Johnson has left the squad in a bit of a mess Diedhou and Elliason likely to leave and no money to spend on new players due to the current climate

“Hello Mr Ford, we like to offer you the position of professional computer game player and porn watcher. Benefits of the job include being fluffed by whomever you choose, 10k a week, ridiculously inefficient 4x4 and free fuel, and private helicopter.”

”Do you mind if I take a couple of days to think about it?”

LJ has left it in a mess? Isn’t that Ashtons domain?

It doesn't make sense that Holden would take a weekend to accept a dream job. I reckon he's been offered a coach role, with a bigger name coming in above him.

This scenario gives me slight hope but I expect to be disappointed

Assuming holden accepts and the reports are correct looking at the poll on this thread only 6% of around 1000 polled are even satisfied with this. With the number of votes polled then its fair to say that this is the general view of the city fan base. I  cant think of any other business who would set out to alienate their paying customers who have voiced their displeasure so much.

My only hope is that holden is given some serious backing in the transfer market as this situation isn't his fault and of course the fans will back him and the team.

The lack of communication from the club is appalling on this when we are seeing state of the art rugby facilities and an ambitious managerial appointment for them suggests to me that bristol sport have changed focus.

Do you know that for certain? If not, why are you thinking it other than what Gregor has written/odds/what people have written about what Gregor has written? Maybe I’ve missed something else

If there was anything in Gregor’s comments that weren’t  true the club would have issued a statement to confirm he hadn’t been offered the role. The fact they haven’t means what Gregor is reporting is correct.

People have to accept that for whatever reason Dean Holden is the clubs choice to replace Lee Johnson.
