It makes complete pragmatic sense - which granted is dull and uninspiring. Being a financial expert doesn't mean you can forecast something that has never happened before with any degree of confidence or expectation of accuracy. I can understand the comments made at the time, and then SL and the board realising over the coming weeks that the landscape had changed massively and the club has had to act accordingly. Nothing has changed since we binned off Johnson, in fact there is more clarity now than there was then, we can now be reasonably confident of a limited number of fans returning in October, when we binned off Johnson this was not known and it was potentially the whole season with no fans ahead of them. So the idea that the delays and eventual appointment of Holden is down to Covid is rubbish. If Covid was a factor why sack Johnson? Or if you are that desporate for money why wait until he has pissed the chance of playoffs up the wall? Could have binned him 2 games earlier and given Holden half a chance of the playoffs. If it was covid and they remove Johnson and appoint Holden almost immediately then I think most of us understand that. If things have changed drastically financially for a business that operates on fixed costs and to a large degree fixed and predictable income streams, then frankly Ashton and Jon L are so incompetent that it defies belief. So it all adds up to people desperately scrabbling for excuses for one of the most shambolic recruitment processes that Football has seen.
RumRed
If COVID was the issue and we needed a dull, but stable ship, for a while why sack LJ when they did? I’m sure we’re still paying him.

They have appointed him because they think he’s the best man for the job. Nothing to do with him being “cheap” It's not the salary that's necessarily the issue with a new manager though. It's what they may want with respect to transfer and wage budgets! Open minded as to who is in the right in these times but it could prove a significant sticking point.
