NFL Season 20/21

Wow. Just caught up on the Monday Night Football.
Can’t believe my Bengals actually took it to the Steelers for the first time in about 13 decades!!!!
Immense defence in the first half, smashing the Steelers in the mouth. They always get away with dirty stuff on us, so I’m glad we got some proper hard hits in on them and we didn’t shy away.
Superb.

Unbelievable that the Browns actually have a realistic shot at winning the division for the first time in, how many years??

With the 11-0 Steelers now at 11-3, what’s everyone’s thoughts on Super Bowl contenders now?
Are we most likely to see a Chiefs - Saints final? Or can the Bills and the Packers have something to say about that.
Dark horses - Browns? Seahawks? Bucs?

I expect the State Farm bowl and the Chiefs to win it.

AFC is much stronger than the NFC IMO!

Only threats to the Chiefs are the two teams who can run it down their throats in the Bills and Titans. All the AFC North teams, the Colts and my Dolphins are not good enough. We had 4 defensive takeaways vs the Chiefs and still they put up 30+. Have to keep them off the field with a superb running game to stand a chance.

There's no class running team to beat up Green Bay like last year (San Fran) so I'm not sure who stops them. I'd give the Buccs the best chance. They seem to have finally learned to just leave Tom to run the offense and clicked massively yesterday vs a sucky Lions team. If the Saints lean heavily on Kamara/Hill maybe.

Seahawks can't stop passes... Rams and Cards can be stopped and the NFC East doesn't exist this year!

Really fun Dolphins win,

Gruden made the right call btw. They got screwed by an injury in the 4 minute offense which stopped the clock once, and giving us 19 seconds with no timeouts to go 35 yards and kick a field goal was the correct choice in the situation I firmly believe. Terrible coverage, terrible penalty and insane throw when your head is being ripped off by FitzMAGIC!

Probably have to go to Buffalo and win to make the playoffs, but I'm super happy with 10+ wins in the second year of the rebuild. Tua's gotta learn , but he also needs better weapons and a running game.  We have a top coach, so we can be good for a long time. More excited for next year than this, but enjoying the ride!

This weekend seems to be where The Bigger Picture may have gone out of focus for some. Still have to scratch my head how the race to the bottom is going, or that the Bears are in with a shout of the playoffs with their record. Yes, I know it's a little different this season but the predictability is stranger than usual. Maybe it's the consequence of no fans due to Covid?

Anyone have any firm feelings about the post-season teams?

Well, the Bengals, pretty much locked in to Pick 3 in the draft, and a certainty for Penei Sewell, an elite looking tackle to protect Joe Burrow for the next 15 years, have decided to go all ‘Bengal-ly’ and somehow win 2 games in a row and dropped from 3rd to 5th pick and now likely to miss the best Tackle.

Sorry Joe - when your knee is better, we’re gonna put you behind the same crappy o-line, hope that’s ok with you.
Aaaaggggghhhhhh!!!!!!

Burrow to Chase will be the new Dalton to Green and you will be stuck in purgatory forever.

But honestly it looks like a deep tackle class (8 good ones) so if it is Chase and a tackle at ~37 I wouldn't be too upset.

Yeah, it’s a good OT class, but losing out on Sewell is just typical Bengals!!
Chase will be a huge star, but we’re set pretty well for WR’s, and Burrow is THAT good that we don’t need top level WR’s, just competent ones.
We’re in need of a pass rusher and a line backer, so if Sewell is gone when we pick I’d see us going down that route and then picking up a Tackle in Round 2.

Anyway, can’t believe the Haskins story. Wow. Fair play to Washington for acting on such a breach. For what it’s worth, I think Alex Smith (when fit) is the better QB anyway.

Crazy. 48 hours ago Browns were in with a title shot, and now playoffs are in doubt. Fairplay to the Jets though. Also how good is the Steelers defence? Dragged them back from a 4th straight defeat

As a Bengals fan, it’s hard to admit, but the Steelers defence is excellent.
And they’ve been without Dupree, Bush & Spillane for a few weeks - 3 outstanding linebackers, and Vince Williams has also been missing for a couple of weeks on the D line.
Their defensive injury list has been worse than City’s!!
But they are still producing the goods. Tomlin sure knows how to put a D together.

In other news... The Armed Forces Bowl ends in a right rip-up. Tulsa v Mississippi State began with some trash talk before the kick-off and after the final play errupted into an on-field brawl. Lots of ugly scenes as players got into a scrap for several minutes.  :boxing: :redcard:   Perhaps that's why it was the Armed Forces Bowl? Oddly, Army played West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl...

Happy New Year to all players, coaches and fans.

And the Packers go marching on..............:cool2:

I thought we gave you a decent game if we had taken all of the three picks we dropped might have been closer. But you had a couple of drops of your own, going to take a good D to stop Rodgers and Adams this year.

At least we get a second chance in the Playoffs against the Saints.

The Packers offence is top notch but it’s been the defence that has been the problem - until this season, They’re much stronger this time around and Rodgers mentioned that just two games in.

It really could the Packets year..............:cool2:

I think my 1st post in here this season.

If you want to see a right rip up, Netflixs' The Last Chance U, EMCC v MDCC probably the worst/best bench clearing fight i've seen in nearly 40yrs watching the game.

The series is well worth a watch.

Nice link, NSR.

I was a little taken aback after the Tulsa/Miss State gaem when the coaches and then the TV pundits talked of 'standing up for their team' and generally saying that they would have done the same in similar circumstances. Never mind about the game ending up in the trash can - it was almost approved!

Didn't get time for a proper link last night, series 1 episodes 5&6

Again in these episodes the HC firsts says he's disgusted with the team's behaviour then when he's watched the replays in the following days and things are pointed out to him by the assistant coaches he changes his position and says he's proud of every player for the way the stood up for each other.

Question 1: So being my first year of following (or even understanding) american football, I've never experienced 'the draft'. The big hype this year is obviously Trevor Lawrence who will seemingly join the Jags. However, as a 'once in a generation talent', why would he want to join a poor side like the Jags? My question is what rights does a player have in terms of rejecting the team that picks them in the draft, and joining a better side where success may follow?

You have some of the richest people in the USA (the owners and capitalists) actively participating in socialism?

Team that finishes with the worst record gets the first pick of the players eligible for that years draft.

And if you want to watch football with supporters who have a connection with the team (as in the majority of football supporters here, not like your plastic mancs or scousers) then watch college football, it is bigger than the NFL.

They could refuse to sign, however the team that drafted them has their rights, so they couldn't play for another team unless that team agreed to trade them.
