He'll be expected to get us into the play offs and if at any point that looks unlikely, he'll be gone. I totally understand what you are saying, but can we really go down that route of any manager who doesn’t look like achieving at least the playoffs gets dismissed. Dangerous what they have started. Maybe, but in reality won't that be pretty irrelevant? If we're struggling when things open back up (let's say early next year, for arguments sake) then he'd probably not last much longer anyway. Glass half full: if he's doing well and we're challenging for play offs, are we really going to let him go and bring in someone else?

Crossed my mind too. 12 month rolling contract feels significant, or like it could be. Safe pair of hands, keep the ship steady. Continue development of youth, some to be sold, some traded- then there's loads out of contract in summer 2021. Some may get renewed, some may sold before that point. Mutual parting of the ways, all very amicable and bigger name comes in with a relatively clean slate/blank canvas with so many contracts expiring! I fear "Bristol City appoint Michael Appleton to manage their attempt to bounce back to the Championship in the 21/22 season" is more likely. There will always be the clubs that get relegated with there big budgets and then the likes of Derby who will spend big who we will be looking to compete with so its going to be very difficult for us to get promoted. Thats, if the goal is ... The Premiership or is it just championship mediocrity.? Ah, Derby. The Derby who are currently in EFL Hearings/Disciplinary Commissions for not only the expenditure but the way in which it appeared to have been funded and presented on the Balance sheet, the P&L? With potential if found guilty to receive a significant points deduction. That Derby? You might also have cited Sheffield Wednesday- minus 12! They also had at least two embargoes in the last 2-3 years. Birmingham based on the 2017/18- minus 9! They also had an EFL business plan that they had to adhere to and limitations on the players they could bring in and how they could fund them as part of it in 2018/19, with individual targets reset to £13m losses. Reading appear too be in some kind of embargo or EFL monitoring of transfers for a second successive season and their financials in last couple of sets of published accounts were pretty horrendous- how have they not yet fallen foul of FFP. Would a points deduction, a soft embargo or EFL oversight over transfers float your boat? Wouldn't for me!
