Jon Lansdown interview

Very clear that Dean was not the “best  candidate” but he was the “right“ one for a club structure that demands a “yes man” as head coach, especially a cheap one when the finances are so uncertain with Covid-19.

Neither Tinnion or Millen were disasters in their first full seasons in charge, but the wheels quickly came off in their second season. With a rolling 12 month contract, I am not sure Holden will even get that far.

Judging by his and Ashton's interviews, it would not surprise me if both wanted Hughton but SL pulled rank.

Neither of their body language or words, suggest they are particularly enthused by having to defend the appointment of Holden.

Would also explain why Hughton thought he had the job if MA/JL were giving him promising feedback.

Tend to agree, although I’m not sure I’ve ever heard Jon Lansdown sound particularly enthused about anything.

I just can’t square that with the Talksport interview.

Ashton said in his interview he recommended him to SL.

Think it’s more about MA wanting to retain power.

Unbelievable Jeff.

Ashton can blag till the cows come home.

If he wanted to spin to SL that Holden was the best choice, in order to protect his own job, then I have no doubt that he would have been able to get exactly what he wanted.

And if that is the case, more fool SL.

All you gotta do is look at our managerial appointments under SL though. Even the ones that weren't yes men. Coppell bailed sharp as you like. Cotterill was given the boot not exactly long after giving us a double.

Interviewer is awful - got the script to put words into JLs mouth too, “ the interview was obviously a rigorous and thorough Interview process...”. How does he know?

Then question about “right man for the job” (not best man) and JL says DH was the right fit for the football club.

Funny, MA said exactly the same. Wonder how many times this was rehearsed.

Every time I hear the guy speak I just get the feeling of being a piece of shit under the bloke's foot. I'm sure that I am wrong and that he is a lovely guy in reality. Maybe his communication skills just aren't the best. I hope so, because his dad is a nice bloke.

Right fit? = Cheap yes man who knows the club structure I.e. won’t rick the boat when we sell his best players. No other answer makes any sense.
This decision is also far more financial than about football, especially as the promotion target is no longer so explicit. It’s financial survival first, and I would have much more respect for the club if it was honest and came out and said that.

Something not right here for sure.

‘Interview’ is 95 seconds long and I’m super proud of myself for lasting just over half way before bursting out laughing. Isn’t he supposed to be happy, enthused, we’ve just appointed the man/team to take us to the Premier League..

As someone else has said, how the media team have allowed this to go out is remarkable, it really is the icing on the cake of an absolute car crash of a process.

As in what do you want for a birthday present, son?  I'd like a Chris Hughton...    **** off!

Completely agree.

I don’t think they even change the menu in the restaurant without SL saying what’s on it first.

Talking of restaurants and menus made me think of Ramsey's kitchen nightmares. Think Gordon should do one for football clubs, having some credence as a former pro (joke).

To be a fly on the wall in those meetings....

If true then that would make MA the fall guy rather than the villain in this instance which puts things in a slightly different light.  Not defending MA btw, just following the logic.

Cotts was not a Lansdown appointment. Keith Dawe appointed him.

Wow!! That tells you all you need to know. As nice a guy as he may be, and this isn’t meant to be a hugely personal critique, JL is severely challenged in a professional sense.

I’ve got mates that worked with him at HL who felt sorry having to work around him as he just wasn’t cut out for that life. He is borderline special needs and it’s wrong for his father to place him in the media spotlight he has.

JL is clearly a City supporter and I don’t believe he has a bad bone in his body, as opposed to the cancerous snake that is Ashton. It’s clear from this interview that he doesn’t believe the corporate spin he’s been told to say and if nothing more, I hope it acts to extradite himself a little from this total shambles.

Whilat putting JL in front of interview candidates is clearly not a wise move and will have adversly affected the profile we project, this is his old man’s doing and we need to direct our attention his way.

The more I consider it , the more I think this appointment is just about survival . Fans may not be allowed in for the whole season in reality and at the end of that , God knows how many EFL clubs will be gone forever . We’re not in the Prem So Gate money is critical . It’s also the first ever rolling contract I can recall at The Gate . This appointment is I think , temporary until we’re through the other side and will see who’s left . Sounds like Armageddon I know but who knows what the next 12 months hold ?

Danny Wilson had a 12 month rolling contract. And I thought Someone else (coppel perhaps) did as well. Could be wrong on that one.

Let's have the STEVE Lansdown interview, please. There is one, surely??

Did I miss it on Talksport?

Premier League a must, Lee failed to, the next step etc etc

Weird, but I'm starting to feel a bit for Mark Ashton tonight

At least the guy fronted up

True, though i suspect he had no choice.

I dont think we will be seeing much of him for a while though.

Remember the start of last season? When our amazing social media team was wielding him out before a game like he was some kind of mascot?

Yea, I dont think that will be happening somehow....

Reflecting on DH’s appointment and watching the JL interview several times, this post hits nail on head for me.

I cannot say I am happy but I will give him my support, just hope DH gets reasonable support financially on signings, players need to step up to the mark now without question and as regards those out on loan last season we need to use the experience gained to our advantage.  We might be in a good place when we come out the other side, who knows, but I do feel this is a treading water appointment with a hope that DH can pull off a master stroke.
