Atalanta

Fun side to watch Atalanta- saw the 2nd half and they were on the backfoot somewhat but when they did break- especially early in it, they got numbers forward, put together some nice moves- quick passing. In flashes.

More than the sum of their parts definitely- and generally entertaining with it! The interesting thing about them, well there are quite a few tbh- they've sold youth to progress, they flourish with a back three, I read somewhere they had the 13th highest wage budget in Serie A- should be nowhere near the CL, let alone CL Qf with that! Good side, like their style- their identity. They don't really seem to change for anyone (clearly there are games they will set up more defensive, or more counterattacking- 3-5-2 may become 3-4-2-1 or similar but largely the same framework).

Losing tonight aside of course! There were a midtable or lower midtable club for years then they hit on youth, already had a decent academy- who they first showcased then in the coming years they largely sold- and seem to have reinvested excellently in the last few years.

Shame Gomez went off on 57 minutes because he was orchestrating everything. Atalanta didn't have a grip on the game for most of that second half so it was a far result. Zapata was knackered as the target man up top.

God I hate psg. Just hope A. Madrid win tomorrow and beat them into the ground in the semis.

Completely agree, PSG completely dominate French football.

Go in any sports shop in France and it’s all PSG. I have been in French cities which have other teams and it’s still all PSG!

We obviously have dominant teams here and you will see other clubs shirts for sale in, say, Bristol; but it will be a mix of Man City/Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea etc.

Love Atalanta... Went to see their previous champions league game vs Valencia in the San Siro (as their ground holds about 10-12k) ... They play incredible attack minded football, fans are nuts... Real community club... We got lucky and saw a great high scoring game ... After which I was hooked on them....and yes, their set up /wage bill not too different from city's.,. But are light years away from us.

They had a big chance right at the end, think they deseevrf extra time. One of players seemed injured too when out of subs.

Ilicic was also injured or out for them, dunno if injured or personal reasons but another key man.

One thing for sure, hope we don't get a Man City v PSG final.

Football has always had rich owners and especially richer owners in modern times, but a sovereign state final of the CL would be somewhat depressing!!

Ilicic caught his wife shagging another bloke ...

withdrew himself from the squad due to depression

Think he's quite happy there and vice versa...

He did get sacked after about 5 games at Inter Milan, when they were through their aging team multi manager phase but he ticks a lot of boxes.

Not afraid to give youth a chance too- their and his turning point came in Autumn 2016 when they beat Napoli with a rather young side and just grew from there. Reinvested brilliantly.
