Indeed a sad loss of a true Eastender.

The pain will ease and you will always have your memories.

From a fellow Eastender and indeed a COPD sufferer (for 20yrs now)

Best wishes and strength at this sad time.

Shit, I've ran out of likes!

Thanks everyone ♥️

You've written as moving a tribute to your Dad as anything I've ever read on OTIB. All credit to you. Your Dad would be as proud of you as you obviously were of him.

As with many who've responded, there are echoes in there of my relationship with my own Dad. He died many years ago, but the good feelings that existed between us were forged at least partly through our shared interest in City, which of course he fostered in me, having himself been a fan from boyhood, way back in the early decades of the  last century.

So, a sad time, but you're in good company: lots of us had Dads with whom we shared the footie and who we think of on those occasional great days and nights at AG - as I did, for instance, when Smith's winner went in against Man Utd. Those "if only Dad were here to see this" moments. In that sense, he'll always be with you.

I'm sorry for your loss and I add my own sincere condolences to all those expressed above.

Condolences fellow red.

That was a lovely post though and whilst sad, it's nice to hear about another great Dad who continued the City supporting legacy in his family as mine did for me and probably the majority of us as well.

A touching tribute. Sorry for your loss.

I wouldn't normally go in for this sort of thing, but just wanted to pay tribute to a fellow Red, my Dad, who sadly lost his long battle with COPD last week.

He became very unwell in January 2018, and whilst he was in a coma fighting for his life I contacted the club who sent him a get well card and an incredibly moving video message from Mad Frankie Fielding. I showed him the vid very soon after he came out of the coma, and will never forget the moment. He was absolutely delighted.

He first took me to AG in December 76, when I was 6 years old, when we played Leeds United. We stood in the enclosure in front of the Williams stand, and although the game was abandoned due to fog, I was well and truly hooked.

He then used to take me and my two brothers into the East End, with a rickety stool each to stand on. He'd plant us right in the middle behind the goal, in front of a barrier to protect us from the surges.

He was always one to start the chanting, and often used to nearly split my ear drums belting out "come on you reds". The only time I remember him leaving us alone was when Arsenal tried to take the East End. Well, he wasn't having that and off he went with his steel toe capped boots and donkey jacket to sort it out!

Some great away days followed when me and my mates would pile in the back of our clapped out Bedford Romany camper, and go off on an adventure. One of those occasions was the notorious Corinthian Casuals game, where once again he stepped up when Millwall made their unwelcome appearance.

He dearly loved the club, and would always write letters to various managers with his insights. In his mind, I think he was the best manager we never had ?

He was also a great supporter of local youth players. Having not been able to visit him for six months because of covid, I was finally allowed to see him last week and even when I was saying my goodbyes he was asking about Zak Vyner!

Sorry to bang on, but I just wanted to put it out there as he'd love the attention from fellow Reds!

In the words of my dearly loved old man

"COME ON YOU REDDDDSSSS!"

So sorry..

Nothing prepares you for it..

May he rest easy....

You bang on about your Father all you want. Its a personal matter when a parent dies, but when a life long City supporter goes on their last journey, it's a football matter without doubt.

You and so many others, me included, started as fans because Dad took us to watch City at The Gate.

Mourn him now but never forget that he will be with you for the remainder of your City career.

Condolences for your loss @Sir Colby-Tit

Good to see that your Dad raised you properly, although

I bet there have been many times you wished he’d taken you to Liverpool/Man U/Arsenal* instead.

RIP Sir Colby Senior.

* delete as appropriate.

Haha, to be honest the thought has never crossed my mind. It's never been about the glory(just as well eh!), more the occasion.

Funnily enough my Gramps was one of the old school that was fond of both Bristol teams. He was a copper and worked match days at both City and Rovers, and I think he may have leaned a bit more towards the Blue Few. My old man, being a rebel, of course went for City.

For that I will be eternally grateful!

Sorry for your loss, always sad to hear about the passing of a fellow red.  Hard but time is a great healer.

The rickety stool amused me, my old Dad did similar, screw in legs hanging from his trouser belt and the stand on bit up his shirt, ready to assemble when we got to our chosen sport in the East End.
