Got to be the Brighton play off final in Cardiff. I was living just outside York and drove down to the game. Got caught by the same speed camera going to and going home from the debacle on the pitch. 6 points and of course, a fine, on top of a shite performance

Sunderland away in FA Cup 1963. 12 hour train journeys there and back. Frozen ice rink for a pitch. Lost 6-1

Northampton away in Div 4. Some have already chosen that so can I join in? Horrible defeat but proud of the little boys we had in our team.

Also the Leicester Cup tie mentioned by others. First time I saw City playing Water Polo!

Plenty more that are best forgotten.

Leeds United away in the late 60's. Managed to board the train at Sheffield as had moved up there with my parents and was a ST holder in the cantilever stand at Sheffield Wednesday. Had kept my red and white scarf !! Was in away end and Gary Sprake was sent off for gobbing in Chris Garland's face. Was a lot of Leeds infiltrators in our end trying to cause trouble but we contained the idiots although at times was a bit hair raising for me as a teenager.

Don't have fond memories of that one either. Kettled on leaving the Irish pub where the atmosphere was brilliant then not permitted to enter the ground for a minor non-football related, non-violent/aggressive misdemeanour. OB dropped me in White City and I walked back to T'Bush and saw my mates walking back to the pub having walked out as we were 0-3 down. Next year we lost again and I lost my phone. Not a fan of QPR away.......

Went to Oldham, 2005-06 season, just got up onto the M6, past Walsall and then hit gridlock, got to the outskirts of Oldham after 3 o’clock, tuned into the local radio commentary to hear we were 1-0 down! 

Whilst parking up, I heard a roar, 2-0 Oldham. As I got in, we had a goal disallowed. Finally at 4-2 down, I decided to give up and head home. Think we lost 4-3 in the end.

Yeah that was a bad day.  But we still got promoted. That Walsall play off defeat meant that the whole season was for nothing. Throw in the complete capitulation and dreadful policing and it remains my number one crappiest away day ever!

I haven't googled it but wasn't that 1988 not 1989? 

I remember a playoff game at Walsall in 1988 because I drove to it on my way to my honeymoon with the new Mrs R&W. It was utterly dire - as was the weather. I got searched by the WMP and had a tiny penknife attached to my keyring which I used for fruit confiscated, which made us miss the start of the game - perhaps they were doing us a favour. After we left the game (early, it was so bad) I remember hitting a 'wall' of rain and coming across an upturned Escort Mk3 in the middle of the motorway, with a young chap in a suit trying to pick up papers from the road as cars swerved to avoid him. 

The evening ended rather well though.....

Edit: If any of you remember someone giving out cakes and food whilst queuing around the corner of Ashton Gate, into the street, by the Robins cafe to buy tickets for that game, that was me and the new Mrs - giving out some of our uneaten leftovers from our wedding evening to the people in the queue!!!

Not read whole thread but one of my worst was the away game at Forest during our extended losing streak under LJ where Giefer made his debut. A freezing cold day, a bloody awful game, our eleventh defeat in twelve games and a 1-0 defeat to another struggling side due to the only interesting thing that happened in the entire match.  I remember a 3-0 defeat to Oxford in about 1999 (under Pulis?) but that was sort of bad enough that you could start to entertain yourself by marvelling at how inept we were whereas 1-0 defeats in grim games are just outright depressing.

March 1990.... Notts County (A). I left Bristol in jeans and T Shirt......got to Nottingham and was absolutely shrammed. I stood on the open terrace and hailstones arrived....full in the face. I copped one hailstone directly in the eye.......... and I wore specs. My mate started laughing at my reaction and asked what happened....as I turned to explain, caught another hailstone in the other eye....

You are correct, it was 1988! 1989 was the league cup semi!

I was so hammered at that game, that I forgot where the minibus was, after the game. Spent an hour or two, weaving about Nottingham city centre, before I sobered up and luckily found my bank card. Got the choo choo back to Gloucester. Oh, and it was a shit 0-0, too.

Valley Parade stood on that huge bank (before the tragedy and rebuild). I have never been so cold at a game before or since.

Can remember a St Georges flag being flown by our lot in that corner - much the derision of the Cardiff mob that we’re directly behind us as we stood near the front on their end. 

Remember the events as clear as yesterday, as along with the likes of Chelsea away in the First Division, it was one of those matches that I spent 90 minutes  wondering how the **** do I extract myself from this predicament with my body intact.
