Gameweek 8 Update (Bournemouth A) - All Subs & No Goals Make This A Dull Post

Another match, another lineup, another low-scoring week.

Only three subs actually required, but then that just means people were left with 10min cameos and 1-pointers across the board. These midweek games have got a lot to answer for. Still unbeaten on the weekends, after all.

:trumpet:Pick of the Week:trumpet:

Only three managers managed to manage three starters - a ménage à trois of sorts (gotta liven up this update somehow, ooer) - namely @Chessels Chick, @DownendRed97 & @Rocking Red Cyril. All worthy of note, especially Cyril’s captain choice of triple bonus point Kalas, but a bit too much like orthodox success for this week.

On the opposite side of the coin, @Dogbert had no starters at all, which is equally admirable - but again, for a “game of two halves”, seems too much like a whole 90mins of underachievement.

So, this week’s honour of being arbitrarily chosen by yours truly goes to a manager with a bit more balance. Someone who got stuck with a 1-pointer, but captained their way to double figures. Like O’Dowda’s first start, this is their first time as PotW, so a hearty hoorah for @Newquay-Red, for whom Captain Bakinson earned a score-boosting 8 points, countering Hunt & Wells’ ménage à trois points.

Well played, well played.

@Dogbert: 5pts (Hunt - Brunt - Martin)

@LeeJohnsonsFlatCap: 5pts (Hunt - Brunt - Martin)

@bissellredhead: 6pts auto-pick (Vyner - Paterson - Wells)

@jrt55555: 6pts (Hunt - Paterson - Martin)

@kelbcfc: 6pts (Hunt - Paterson - Wells)

@Nathandao: 6pts (Hunt - Paterson - Wells)

@prankerd: 7pts auto-pick (Moore - Paterson - Martin)

@RedYoshi: 7pts (Moore - Paterson - Martin)

@CheddarReds: 8pts (Hunt - Bakinson - Martin)

@Chessels Chick: 8pts (Hunt - Paterson - Semenyo)

@DownendRed97: 8pts (Hunt - Paterson - Semenyo)

@Oubliette23: 9pts (Kalas - Paterson - Wells)

@Redstart: 9pts (Kalas - Paterson - Wells)

@wayne allisons tongues: 9pts (Kalas - Paterson - Wells)

@citywest30: 11pts (Kalas - Bakinson - Wells)

@Newquay-Red: 11pts (Hunt - Bakinson - Wells)

@Rocking Red Cyril: 16pts (Kalas - Bakinson - Diédhiou)

Cyril indeed coming out on top, with citywest matching our PotW in joint second. Chessels and Downend not actually benefitting that much from their decent selections, stuck in the middle of the pack, but hey - the choice has been made.

Not much to write home about elsewhere, suffice to say it wasn’t a week to captain our strikers.

@Nathandao ensures we’ve all removed our helmets & raised our bats, although if a few more of us had stopped playing the wrong sport we might be a bit closer to @Chessels Chick at the top, who’s well on the way to a daddy hundred.

Powered by the PotW, @Newquay-Red jumps up three places, switching with @bissellredhead either side of myself & @Oubliette23, who are now as close in the table as in real life.

Opposite ends of the Gameweek table but far closer for the season, @Dogbert & @Rocking Red Cyril also swap places, as @wayne allisons tongues similarly sneaks ahead of @prankerd.

Back to a weekend match tomorrow, so at least we won’t lose.

And when we do, I’ll take the blame.

Gameweek 9 Update (Norwich H) - Paying the Penalty

Less said about that penalty the better, especially for the five people who had 0-point Wells on their team (four as captain...).

It also meant, of course, that the nine managers who had Kalas (two as captain) missed out on an assist to boot.

For the four who had both it meant a difference of at least 9 points. Three of the four had captained Wells, so it actually cost 15 points.

But as I say, less said about it...

:trumpet:Pick of the Week:trumpet:

With just four selections of goalscorer Hunt (two of which were automatic) and - somewhat surprisingly - top-scoring Paterson only making it into three teams, it's tempting to give it to one of these seven managers.

However, with each being the most-selected thus far in their respective positions (in fact, Pato is the most-selected player full stop), these picks - while productive - just don't get the juices flowing like they used to. Getting old, I s'pose.

Instead, a player picked a mere six times (and just the once before this match) is the central figure for this week's PotW. A player who wasn't the highest, nor second highest, nor even third highest scorer. A player who, amidst a captain's parade including Martin (9 captain selections), Wells (4) and Kalas (2), earned the trust of just one manager.

A player who repaid that trust, and ended up as the highest scoring captain for the week thanks to nabbing the last bonus point.

That player would be Callum "Kidlington's Finest" O'Dowda, and the maverick (some may say bonkers) manager was one @kelbcfc, to earn an unprecedented third PotW crown.

Makes up for being one of the four who had both Kalas and Wells, at least...

Congratulations!

@jrt555552pts (Kalas - Bakinson - Wells)

@Newquay-Red4pts (Kalas - Bakinson - Diédhiou)

@prankerd4pts (Kalas - O'Dowda - Wells)

@citywest306pts (Dasilva - Bakinson - Martin)

@Oubliette236pts (Kalas - Bakinson - Martin)

@Rocking Red Cyril6pts (Kalas - O'Dowda - Diédhiou)

@wayne allisons tongues6pts (Kalas - Bakinson - Martin)

@bissellredhead7pts (Moore - O'Dowda - Martin)

@kelbcfc7pts (Kalas - O'Dowda - Wells)

@Nathandao8pts auto-pick (Hunt - Bakinson - Wells)

@Dogbert9pts auto-pick (Dasilva - Brunt - Martin)

@LeeJohnsonsFlatCap9pts (Kalas - Paterson - Wells)

@Redstart11pts (Hunt - Bakinson - Martin)

@CheddarReds12pts auto-pick (Hunt - Bakinson - Martin)

@Chessels Chick13pts (Kalas - Paterson - Martin)

@RedYoshi13pts (Dasilva - Paterson - Martin)

@DownendRed9714pts (Hunt - O'Dowda - Martin)

Possibly unsurprising, then, to see Downend also picked O'Dowda, which was just enough to pip myself and fellow Paterson-backer (and still table-topping) Chessels to the top score of the week.

Contrasting fortunes for those who did captain Wells, with both jrt and prankerd at the bottom of the pile, while Nathan & LJFC got a boost from Hunt & Paterson respectively to end up in the top half.

With LJFC battling for the title of October's Manager of the Month, that boost could be vital, especially as challengers Redstart and CheddarReds (who was the highest of a good week for the auto-picks) had better results...

...but not quite good enough.

Before the bonus points, Redstart and CheddarReds had indeed put themselves into a share of the lead for the month, but Paterson's triple triple (third time he's earned the three bonus points) was enough for LJFC to hold on.

With 85 points to their 83, give it up for your latest Manager of the Month, @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap!

It may not have been enough to claim MotM, but @CheddarReds does overtake @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap into second, as @Redstart also makes a move up into 4th.

@Newquay-Red loses what they gained last match, slipping back to 10th, just ahead of gameweek winner @DownendRed97 who can smell that top 10 almost as much as @Nathandao can smell not being bottom.

No rest for the wicked - back on it tomorrow. Deadline of 18.00.

Sorry RRC, Kalas is ineligible for you this week! Might wanna reshuffle slightly, unless you’re happy going sub-less in defence.

My pick:

DEF: Rowe vc (Dasilva)

MID: Bakinson (O’Dowda)

FWD: Semenyo (C) (Wells)
