Gameweek 10 Update (Huddersfield A) - Absentees Make It Count

Take a bow Antoine and Jamie. After Biden their time, off the bench they came and flipped the state of the match - thanks also to some strong transitions with incumbent Dasilva. What a Tuesday night to elect one or more of them.

Hope was reignited in our supporters after a long four years five games without a win, although there might be a bit of a run-off in my next decision...

:trumpet:Pick of the Week:trumpet:

With Jay “14-point” Dasilva only earning the defensive vote of three people, it would make a certain amount of sense to reward that, but they’ve got enough success already. Although I should give a special mention to @Rocking Red Cyril who, despite a reshuffle that saw a 0% turnout by either captain pick, still ended up as 5th highest scorer.

So we turn our attention to our progressive, youthful candidate Semenyo, elected as leader by yours truly, and alongside a stronger administration by @DownendRed97. But wait, what’s this? A late recount? Something about chips?

That’s right. Demonstrating a perfect way to use the Best Of chip, anticipating a high volume of mail-in sub-on returns, @Oubliette23 takes the crown this week. Hell of a lot better than a Wells chip, that’s for sure.

A close run thing, it has to be said, but well deserved :yahoo:

Here’s the rest of the official, final results. No recounts.

@Newquay-Red5pts auto-pick (Kalas - Massengo - Diédhiou)

@Chessels Chick6pts (Kalas - Brunt - Diédhiou)

@bissellredhead8pts (Kalas - Nagy - Martin)

@kelbcfc8pts (Hunt - O’Dowda - Martin)

@wayne allisons tongues8pts (Hunt - Brunt - Wells)

@CheddarReds12pts (Kalas - Paterson - Wells)

@jrt5555512pts (Kalas - Paterson - Martin)

@Redstart12pts (Hunt - Paterson - Martin)

@RedYoshi15pts (Rowe - O’Dowda - Semenyo)

@Dogbert16pts (Kalas - Paterson - Wells)

@prankerd16pts (Hunt - Paterson - Martin)

@Nathandao: 17pts (Vyner - Paterson - Martin)

@Rocking Red Cyril: 18pts (Dasilva - Brunt - Martin)

@Oubliette23: 20pts Best Of (Hunt - Paterson - Semenyo)

@DownendRed97: 21pts (Vyner - Paterson - Semenyo)

@citywest30: 24pts (Dasilva - Paterson - Wells)

@LeeJohnsonsFlatCap: 24pts (Dasilva - Paterson - Wells)

As Newquay-Red is forced to abandon the centre ground, the inevitable polarisation leaves them at the back of the pack, while LJFC carries on October’s form to sit atop the rankings alongside citywest.

The rest of us were essentially playing a game of “which of Dasilva-Paterson-Semenyo did you pick?”, with anyone going an independent route finishing with single figures. Suffice to say kel’s repeat of Cap’n O’Dowda didn’t pay dividends.

Well, well, well - a turnaround on the pitch, and a turnaround in the table. We have a new leader! Fresh from that aforementioned strong October, @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap jumps up from 3rd as @citywest30 jumps up to 3rd. Don’t need anyone claiming premature victory here, mind. Loooong way to go.

Further down, they could both smell it before, and sure enough: @DownendRed97 breaks into the top 10 ... and @Nathandao is off the bottom! It’s heating up!

GW11 Update (Cardiff City A) - Martin Shakes and Stirs

It feels ages ago now, I was a whole year younger, and considering how early the goal was it feels even longer ago than how it feels. But coo-ee did it feel good.

Paterson passes, Semenyo slides it, Martin mullers it home.

With clean sheets galore (aside from Rowe's 2 minute cameo ruining it for @CheddarReds and @Dogbert), it ultimately came down to striker and captain choice. So let's come down with it, whatever "it" may be.

:trumpet:Pick of the Week:trumpet:

After his game changing performance against Huddersfield, everyone flocked to Semenyo (okay, eight people wandered towards him, four of whom proffered an armband [captain's, not swimming]), and were rewarded with an assist and a bonus point.

But meanwhile, just one stood firm with captain Martin, while another rebounded from a near-miss and applied the learned experience to also end up with captain Chris. Despite his yellow card, a well-earned two bonus points nudged him just ahead of Semenyo, and thus earns both his managers the treasured title of Pick(s) of the Week.

Firstly, @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap, who is off to a flier in November following the October triumph, and then @DownendRed97 who, having missed out last week due to a Best Of chip, went straight ahead and immediately used it to equal levels of perfection, thus avenging that cruel twist of fate.

On the other side of the chippy, I demonstrated exactly how not to use it, sticking it in midfield for a game in which all our starting midfielders scored exactly the same points.

A tale of two chips, and a tale of two Picks. Congrats to both!

@Dogbert13pts (Rowe - O'Dowda - Semenyo)

@wayne allisons tongues13pts (Hunt - Paterson - Wells)

@CheddarReds14pts (Rowe - O'Dowda - Martin)

@kelbcfc14pts (Hunt - Nagy - Wells)

@Chessels Chick18pts (Dasilva - Paterson - Semenyo)

@Redstart18pts (Dasilva - Paterson - Semenyo)

@Nathandao19pts auto-pick (Vyner - Paterson - Martin)

@prankerd19pts (Dasilva - Paterson - Martin)

@RedYoshi19pts Best Of (Hunt - Paterson - Martin)

@bissellredhead21pts (Dasilva - O'Dowda - Semenyo)

@citywest3021pts (Hunt - Paterson - Semenyo)

@Newquay-Red21pts (Dasilva - Paterson - Semenyo)

@Oubliette2321pts (Dasilva - Paterson - Semenyo)

@Rocking Red Cyril21pts (Kalas - Nagy - Semenyo)

@jrt5555522pts auto-pick (Hunt - Paterson - Martin)

@DownendRed9723pts Best Of (Hunt - Paterson - Martin)

@LeeJohnsonsFlatCap23pts (Dasilva - O'Dowda - Martin)

Yep, a double reward for both, as they top the gameweek table too. Different approaches, same result.

A good week for the auto-picks of Nathan & jrt, while Dogbert and CheddarReds successfully counterbalanced their lack of clean sheet with the best two picks up top, thus avoiding being cut adrift, joined as they are by our two Wells pickers Kel & Wayne's tongues.

Otherwise a very tight field - clever captaining of defence or attack being the difference maker.

LJFC obviously holds on to top spot, clicking past the double century in the process, but @citywest30 sneaks up into second, dropping @Chessels Chick down for the second week running. Has that blistering start taken its toll, or is it just a blip? Only time will tell...

Not much movement elsewhere, reflecting the tight nature of the week, with just a few shoulder barges and jostling for position in mid-table - @DownendRed97 catching @jrt55555, and @Rocking Red Cyril doing the do-si-do with @prankerd - as @Oubliette23 comes to hold my hand in 5th.

As it was a double chip week, and we're halfway to the new year, this is a good an opportunity as any to remind you all that your chips renew on January 1st. So you've got 11 more games (well, 10, as this update is so late) to use them before you lose them.

They can come in handy during the cup, of course, and I will announce plans for that soon - suffice to say it'll be in the run up to Christmas.

GW11 Dream Team: pretty much (6) - just (3) - Martin (7)

Points Breakdown

  1. Martin 7 (g, 2bp - yc)
  2. Dasilva 6 (cs)
  3. Hunt 6 (cs)
  4. Kalas 6 (cs)
  5. Semenyo 6 (a, 1bp)
  6. Vyner 6 (cs)
  7. Nagy 3 (cs)
  8. O'Dowda 3 (cs)
  9. Paterson 3 (cs)
  10. Wells 2
  11. Brunt 1
  12. Moore 1
  13. Rowe 1

N.B. Bentley technically earned the 3 bonus points. Might add him to the table on his own, see how well he does.
