Gameweek 22 (Luton A) - Farewell, 2020 - Oh Crap, It's 20 2-1

Yep. A 2020 way to finish 2020, and give an insight to how the arbitrary application of sun orbits gives no real meaningful change. All a bit of a damp squib after @DownendRed97's cup triumph (congratulations again, hope you're still basking in the warm afterglow).

A mixed week for all the final-chance chip plays, including yours truly successfully turning a Triple Captain into a Double Captain :facepalm:,  but somewhat fitting that the year ends with our pole-sitter consolidating that position.

Wasn't quite enough for LJFC to challenge for December's Manager of the Month, though, leaving them 6th on 93pts... @Oubliette23 also made a late challenge, jumping into joint-fourth on 96 with @Chessels Chick who was second going into the match. @Redstart jumped up into third on 98, while @Dogbert hit a December century in second...

But there was always just one winner this (last) month.

With a massive 106pts, the one and only @kelbcfc! Applause, applause, applause.

So here's how 2020 finished:

We have 11 players in the top 10, with @Dogbert and @jrt55555 knocking @Rocking Red Cyril out for the time being.

@kelbcfc continues their charge, sharing 7th place with the impressive @CheddarReds - worth noting that they're there with no chips used at all. Similarly, @Redstart maintains 3rd position with just the one chip used at the last minute.

Anyway, I've a feeling it won't necessarily stay this way for long...

10 years it took to beat them again. Two postponed games it took us to play a 2021 league game. A whole month it's taken me to get here since the last update.

Phwoar! Points all over the place. No more than for Newquay, whose excellent and bold captaincy saw Vyner score as much as any other team on his own. Nathan's perennial auto-pick was the only other team to include young Zak, but Diédhiou ensured plenty of others got off to a decent start to the year.

An immediate change in fortunes for our leader, though, just scraping into double figures, with seven of us earning fewer then half of the week-leading total. The ol' Martin/Diédhiou dividing line at work by the looks of it.

That lead wiped out in one fell swoop! What a race we have for the rest of the year, especially with @Redstart closing in quickly too.

@kelbcfc doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon either, nudging into sole possession of 7th, as @Oubliette23 leapfrogs cup-winner @DownendRed97 and last season's bronze medallist @citywest30.

Still 11 in the top 10, but a different 11, and with 14 of us beyond the 300 mark it's near impossible to rule anybody out. So I won't.

Seduced by the Vyner... from two picks and 14 points, to seven picks and 0 points. Ouch. Quite a good week for an auto-pick though, with @jrt55555 topping the week, while @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap sneaking into double figures has a very different outcome this time.

@jrt55555 solidly into the top 10 now, as we revert to the traditional ten-player-top-10, with @DownendRed97 back into 4th and @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap nudging a nose in front once more.

A first low score in a while for @kelbcfc, but doesn't affect their claim on 7th spot, and @bissellredhead and @prankerd will be looking to follow their lead as they close in on the 300...

Exciting, nerve-wracking, invigorating, infuriating... Just how we like it, right? Amazingly, despite our inconsistent form in the league, we've actually W4 L1 in January overall. Doesn't feel like it, that's for sure!

None of us seem to have any consistency either! People bouncing from the top to the bottom and back again all over the place.

Suffice to say, Diédhiou was the key here. Surprisingly, none of us picked Mawson, who was the second best for this match, but pairing Fam with a reinvigorated Kasey did wonders for the top six.

Did it shake things up?

Both @Chessels Chick and @Redstart fly past @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap, with @Oubliette23 closing right up too.

@jrt55555 continues the mini-surge up to 6th, as @kelbcfc's stunning run starts to wobble, slipping to joint-10th with @Newquay-Red who's heading in the opposite direction.

With @wayne allisons tongues also taking advantage, @citywest30 and @CheddarReds seem to be the biggest victims, dropping 4 and 6 places respectively through January thus far... @prankerd's joint game-topping score may well be the beginning of that aforementioned hoped for recovery, as @bissellredhead also cracks through the 300 wall.
