Gameweek 34 Update (Bournemouth H) - Best of the Best Ofs

Cup final day, and the crowds are, well, non-existent... but those who would be in the crowd, were there crowds in which to be, are on the edge of their seats. And while our real life team were on the wrong end of the result, they certainly didn't let us down - and the fantasy world is no different. A glut of chips played, some great performances, and some on just the wrong end of a close result...

15th/16th:
@jrt55555 16 - 7 @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap
"It's coming home" was the pre-match cry, and LJFC is indeed coming home with the wooden spoon clutched proudly in their hands. The assist from auto-captain Hunt was enough to clinch 15th for jrt, with a bit of gloss added by Diédhiou's double bonus.
auto-pick (Hunt - Palmer - Diédhiou) v (Vyner - Nagy - Wells)

13th/14th:
@Dogbert 11 - 25 @CheddarReds
Having not played a chip all season until now, Cheddar showed exactly how to do it with Mr. Best Of Bakinson making it lucky no.13 (and 2nd highest score of the GW to boot). Dogbert perhaps suffering the bad luck of finishing 13th last time out, but at least captained Diédhiou for double digits.
(Kalas - Nagy - Diédhiou) v Best Of (Kalas - Bakinson - Diédhiou)

11th/12th:
@Newquay-Red 23 - 7 @wayne allisons tongues

Another Bakinson difference maker, again courtesy of a well played Best Of chip by Newquay. Meanwhile, wayne matched up LJFC's wooden spoon team, so maybe there's room in that kitchen for two...
Best Of (Kalas - Bakinson - Wells) v (Vyner - Nagy - Wells)

9th/10th:
@Redstart 11 - 7 @prankerd
Auto-picks winning the day! They faced off for the bronze medal at Christmas, but not as much on the line here. Nothing to speak of in defence and midfield for either side, so it all came down to the bonus Diédhiou double, which got doubled.
auto-pick (Vyner - Nagy - Diédhiou) v (Vyner - Palmer - Wells)

7th/8th:
@Oubliette23 7 - 11 @RedYoshi
See above, with added guilt. How dare I win such a match? Oubliette clearly deserved the victory, and there must have been some statistical error... There, can I come back in the bedroom now?
(Vyner - Palmer - Wells) v (Sessegnon - Nagy - Diédhiou)

5th/6th:
@DownendRed97 15 - 11 @bissellredhead

Not quite the glory of Christmas, but Downend was one of only two to pick Bakinson unaided. Bissell captained better, which made things interesting, but ultimately you can't come back if you lack the Bak.
(Vyner - Bakinson - Wells) v (Vyner - Palmer - Diédhiou)

3rd Place Playoff:
@Chessels Chick @Rocking Red Cyril
Five whole points on the line here, and what a scrap it was. A Best Of chip against a Triple Captain chip... and both had Bakinson! 20-20 right there, but surely it's Cyril's for the taking considering the extra captains. Well, not so fast. Chessels' pick of Diédhiou matched a Wells+armband, so we're up to 24-24, and RRC only has single point Kalas in defence. 24-26. Hunt can win it here for Chessels... They're round the keeper... Square it across... to... Vyner. Oooo, so close, yet so far. 25-26 and Rocking Red Cyril has toppled the top of the league for an extra bonus 5 points and the bronze medal. 3rd place playoffs never seem to disappoint (unless they involve England) and this was no exception, featuring the highest two scores of the week. Magnificent, and congratulations Cyril.
Best Of (Vyner - Bakinson - Diédhiou) 25 - 26 Triple Captain (Kalas - Bakinson - Wells)

GRAND FINAL:
@kelbcfc @citywest30
Here it is. The big'un. Can kel go one better, or will citywest take the title and leave kel as the bridesmaid again... Well both had Vyner at the back for just a single point, so we're off to a cagey start, understandably. Big match nerves can get to the best of us, which evidently includes Best Of Bakinson because he didn't even turn up in this one. That's right, no Best Of for the best of us, and a pair of captained Palmers puts the final on knife-edge, 5-5 with forwards to come. Wells notches up just the two for kel, and it's 7-5, going down to the wire... Is the final going to a Substishootout™? Or does citywest have Diédhiou up top...? Tune in next week to find out...

Ok, ok, no more waiting. The ball comes in... and Diédhiou's there! Four points, and it's a 9-7 victory! We have a new cup champion! Kel's on the second step of the podium again, as citywest gets to say "I do" when the question is asked. The question being "who gets 15 points, then"? Still, 20pts out of two cups is nothing to be sniffed at.

Oh, also, citywest had used the Triple Captain chip, so actually it was 14-7 and this tension was entirely fabricated. You're welcome!

(Vyner - Palmer - Wells) 7 - 14 Triple Captain (Vyner - Palmer - Diédhiou)

Congratulations citywest - a well deserved victory!

Let's see what that's all done to the table...

GW34.thumb.jpeg.c6c0321938efc7c2496a40460334fa60.jpeg

Our newly crowned champion leapfrogs their vanquished opponents, as @wayne allisons tongues slips behind both. And while @Chessels Chick missed out on the bronze, they surge past the 500 mark and extend their lead to 30pts.

Successful bronze medallist @Rocking Red Cyril is also successful in the league, jumping up three places and aiming for that top 10. @Newquay-Red does manage to throw themselves back into that group, up a whopping five spots into 7th.

@CheddarReds, the only other player to earn over 20 this week, somehow stays in the same spot but is now much closer to those above, and with the new discovery of these chips who knows what might happen?

Uh oh, kick off. COYR!!

For future reference could some please explain the OL feature please

Chips

  • Triple Captain: All three players are captained, essentially doubling your entire points haul for the week. Not to be confused with the FPL version of tripling one player's score!
  • Overload: This allows you to choose all three of your players from just one position (i.e. 3 defenders, 3 midfielders, or 3 forwards). You still choose a captain/vice-captain & subs.
  • Best Of: Instead of selecting a specific player, you can pick the "best of" a given position, and will automatically be given the best performing player in that position for that match. This chip can be captained.

Gameweek 35 Update (QPR H) - Post-Cup Collapse

As the ticker-tape barely reaches the ground from @citywest30's trophy presentation, we're left with a feeling of a "here we go again". Turns out our team must need the motivation of a high-stakes cup tie to perform - it's the only explanation. Good job we've got another two coming up unnecessarily quickly!

Here's the shakedown of our first non-cup game in a while...

Nathandao: 0pts auto-pick (Vyner - O'Dowda - Martin)

@jrt555552pts (Vyner - Bakinson - Diédhiou)

@CheddarReds4pts auto-pick (Kalas - Bakinson - Diédhiou)
@citywest304pts (Sessegnon - Nagy - Diédhiou)
@Oubliette234pts (Mariappa - Bakinson - Diédhiou)

@bissellredhead5pts (Kalas - Bakinson - Wells)
@prankerd5pts auto-pick (Vyner - Nagy - Wells)

@LeeJohnsonsFlatCap6pts (Sessegnon - Bakinson - Wells)

@Rocking Red Cyril8pts (Kalas - Palmer - Diédhiou)
@wayne allisons tongues8pts (Kalas - Palmer - Diédhiou)

@Dogbert9pts (Vyner - Palmer - Wells)

@Chessels Chick10pts (Sessegnon - Palmer - Wells)
@Newquay-Red10pts (Kalas - Palmer - Wells)

@RedYoshi11pts (Vyner - Palmer - Diédhiou)

@DownendRed9712pts (Sessegnon - Palmer - Diédhiou)
@Redstart12pts Best Of (Vyner - Palmer - Wells)

@kelbcfc13pts (Kalas - Palmer - Wells)

Kel shrugging off the cup disappointment and topping the low-scoring week, closely followed by anyone else who captained 3-bonus Palmer. Possibly hungover from the victory party, citywest faced opposite fortune, stuck with a carded captain & early subbed midfielder, but jrt takes the captaincy biscuit with poor Zak Vyner on "nul point".

Ultimately, it's a triptych this week. Those who didn't have Palmer, those who did, and those who captained him. The rest is just tears in the rain.

GW35.thumb.jpeg.e55f3cbfd0286ea90ea954af71c56c1a.jpeg

Unsurprisingly, that leads to minimal movement - @kelbcfc does close the gap on the top four, while @DownendRed97 achieves a leapfrog to piggyback transition, the likes of which haven't been seen since primary school playgrounds in the 90s.

Further back, @Dogbert & @Rocking Red Cyril are putting the pressure on @LeeJohnsonsFlatCap, and @bissellredhead joins the 400 club.

Exciting times.

GW35 Dream Team: anyone but Vyner (1) - Palmer (5) - Semenyo/Wells (2)

Points Breakdown

  1. Palmer 5 (3bp)
  2. Lansbury 2 (2bp - yc)
  3. Pearson 2 (1bp) - g'wan Sam!
  4. Semenyo 2
  5. Wells 2
  6. Bakinson 1
  7. Diédhiou 1 (yc)
  8. Hunt 1 (2gc)
  9. Kalas 1 (2gc)
  10. Mariappa 1 (2gc)
  11. Nagy 1
  12. Sessegnon 1 (2gc)
  13. Vyner 0 (2gc)

Freestyle for the rest of ya: @bissellredhead, @Chessels Chick, @Dogbert, @DownendRed97, @Oubliette23, @wayne allisons tongues

I'm oddly early this week, so will pop another reminder up at some point. But I'll also take this opportunity for an Easter Cup related announcement:

Seeding Round

Both for some variety in structure, and due to the new superstition that City play well(better?) when the match is linked to our imaginary cups, I've decided to abandon the random draw for the Easter Cup. Instead, it shall be seeded based on your scores against Birmingham.

Substishootouts™ will be utililised to separate equal scores, and coins will be tossed/straws shall be picked/wheels will be spun if that doesn't solve it.

The draw for the first round (GW37 v Blackburn) will therefore look like this:

Match 1: 1st seed v 16th seed

Match 2: 8th seed v 9th seed

Match 3: 5th seed v 12th seed

Match 4: 4th seed v 13th seed

Match 5: 3rd seed v 14th seed

Match 6: 6th seed v 11th seed

Match 7: 7th seed v 10th seed

Match 8: 2nd seed v 15th seed

Yay!
