Best start to a season ever ?

Is this the best start to a season ever for competitive games

From memory we had a good winning run 1900’s

Without consulting the record books, I consider that two league wins in a row is probably nowhere near our best start.

However, given that many of us were hardly ecstatic at Dean Holden's appointment, its a very promising start. With two first choice central defenders out, the young guns have performed very well. And we are also missing three midfielders in Morrell, Walsh and Williams, all of whom could be now be regarded as certs on the team sheet.

So far so good I'm not getting too excited yet. But to win for the third season in a row at Stoke City, where our previous last league win was in 1959, it looks promising.

The best start in my lifetime (ok your on a windup) was the opening day win at Highbury.

Followed by a 4-1 thumping of Sunderland on a glorious sunny afternoon.

No it was actually followed by a 1-1 draw home to Stoke, nil-nil at Newcastle, 1-0 defeat to Coventry in the League Cup then the 4-1 thumping of Sunderland.

We lost to Oxford United in cup in our double winning season
2nd game

Yep, and Cotts didn't do much to hide his lack of disappointment as he walked off past the Grandstand.

Pissed me off a bit on the night, but I got over it as the season wore on!

I remember one season (in the seventies?) when we won the first 4 in the second division. We then played Palace who were bottom according to my wobbly memory and lost at home.

Pretty sure we were unbeaten at home in 73/74 then MOTD came calling and we lost at home to Palace in early November, Alan Whittle the scorer iirc.

Holden not made a save for 227 minutes according to Gregor

Easiest money he's ever going to earn.

Fair play to the defenders and midfielders protecting our goal

Can only imagine what rubbish LJ would of come out with "we've treated the goal like it's our mothers"

I confidently predict that Holden won't make a save all season ?

good start yes, but best ever!! Behave and calm down

Stoke have been very good at home since O'Neil took charge, that was a very good result yesterday.
