Step forward that sacked head coach/smarmy chief executive /sacked scout/sacked stat analyst/other (probably sacked) former "behind the scenes" employee - well done sir/madam. And thank you.

Ultimately credit will have to go to the Johnson regime for this one if he keeps developing as he’s a Johnson signing. No idea on the specific scout though.

I can remember that at the time, from the Luton end, there was a big deal made about the fee being one they "couldn't turn down"- though the fee was undisclosed.

If you shave down that Han Noah Massengo wig you bought you can show your support for him.

He wasn't really under pressure today. Thought he was great though and the sky is the limit for a guy that size with that ability.

Again just cool brakes, wait until he's versus teams directly attacking him and we'll see where he really is.

And enjoy the time he has here, because he's too big and too good if he gets to a level of consistency to stay here.

Very smart move to get him on a contract until 2023 by MARK ASHTON

No great skill, but this was my favourite Bakinson moment today:

That moment made me laugh out loud for the first time ever watching a match on tv.
Absolutely superb. Took both of of Stokies out in one move. Minters.

Our scouting department has been decent for a while....The club is developed on the basis of buying young and developing potential. I cant understand why he was not around the team/club last season (along with Morrell and Walsh brought back) he hasn’t just become the player he is in the four weeks between last season and this!

He was great today, for the first goal his ball ahead under pressure to get the move going was fantastic. + There was a lovely bit of interplay between him and Martin around 48 mins both under pressure and controlling things beautifully.

Probably because the club preferred him to get experience at a lesser standard for an entire season rather than the possibility of a handful of games here, so that he could progress steadily rather than being thrown in at the deep end straight away.

It’s tended to be the way the club has done it recently & the results can’t really be argued with.

All of Bryan, Reid, Walsh, Morrell, Bakinson, Semenyo, Pring, O’Leary & Holden have all started their men’s football education playing through the lower levels & all have had good reports come back from the clubs they’ve joined. While it would be great to get them into the first team early on, we can only play any 11 players at one time & the U23 standard & frequency of fixtures aren’t enough to help some of those players progress quickly enough, so sending them out to play football where results matter for 9 months of the year is much better than these players possibly getting 5 meaningful games a year.

Yes I agree with the thrust, however the previous administration was struggling had these players available but spent money on two players that weren’t playing one of whom wasn’t even training and was kicked out by us.

Couple that with Nagy’s injury among several others The opportunity was there last season but the regime chose poor options. IMO

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, we tend to try & do all our business properly & this extends to agreements we have with other clubs.

If we agree a player is going somewhere for a season, we tend to allow them to stay there, this also allows for the young player involved to get settled in their environment & for an element of trust to develop between clubs that can benefit us further down the line.

Peterborough for one, are a club that have openly admitted that they are happy to do business with us because we don’t mess anyone about. This helps with transfers as well as loans & is a reason why we tend to use the same clubs to look after our youngsters.

Brian Tinnion commented while he was co-commentating on Wednesday that we now have clubs that will happily accept any players we send them because they trust what we are doing rather than them wanting a particular player. There is an element of trust that our club has earned & this extends to our players where they trust what we decide is best for their next bit of development.

But that’s not completely true is it. The call back in Jan clause is there if needed. We didnt take it up. As for hindsight, there were plenty screaming for the return of the players mentioned at the time. I know I was among many...It was foresight that was lacking and poor decisions. IMO...Still we have them now right along with about 37 other midfielders, that Dean Holden is sorting out in the coming weeks according to today’s interview.

Our midfield was bullied game after game. Korey and HNM just didnt have the stamina and strength to compete and Kasey Palmer and Elliason festered while we threw away our chances....Meanwhile Henrickson was not getting picked/let go.

Ah but the clamour for players to be back playing for us was in June, when we restarted after lockdown, not for players to be recalled in January, by in large. And because of the situation, we weren’t allowed to recall players in June because it wasn’t part of the transfer window.

There were calls for Morrell / Walsh to be recalled by a few but at that stage we still had enough players to do the job required, hence why we were still only 6 points outside the play-off when everything restarted in June, we did ok from January to March really & those players probably still wouldn’t of got much football. It was hardly the clubs fault that league 1 didn’t come back & these players were left unable to play, that was more down to the Football League & was hardly something the club could of foreseen.

Plenty of calls for player returns in the window. The fact was we didn’t have the players in form or the management to do the job otherwise we would have done it....The team was struggling from the point we were out muscled by WBA in November. Followed by Millwall Charlton Brentford who did the same and topped off by the humiliation of Shrewsbury (Any team that watched us knew we were soft and lightweight and evidently beatable and did just that all within the time frame players could be brought back)...Whilst we were playing turgid hoof it to Fammy ball, particularly at home.

By the time we lost at Leeds and again to WBA it was pretty clear we were known as soft, but to late...The one thing that Dean Holden is correcting and has made a huge deal of is strength..He obviously knew it then and now

The only real Nasty battler we had Was Taylor and LJ couldn’t wait to get shot of him back at the beginning of the season.

I maintain we had three players on the books that could have been brought back and made a difference but the previous administration couldn’t see what was in front of them, or were to inept, at the time it mattered in Nov Dec and Jan...(The reaction of one or two (including Walsh) told its own story, when LJ was fired) We went from automatic contenders to seventh and the rest is history. Anyway it cost LJ his job and has given Holden a chance. He has Bakinson Walsh and Morrell, gues we will see what he does.

Yet interestingly we still haven’t seen Walsh or Morrell perform for us since.

Most of the core strength has been brought in from outside with Martin & Mawson. What has made a huge difference is the fact that DH has decided to play a certain way & bring players in to help us play that way while adding what we were missing, particularly last season.
From what we have shown so far this season, we won’t be that easy touch & we won’t allow the opposition to bully us while we also play ‘cute’, in terms game management.

Looking from the outside in, part of the problem LJ had was that he wouldn’t stick to a game plan, could that of been down to the streaky runs? Did he feel he had to keep changing different things to try & get the positive result rather than trusting what we were doing? He then ended up chasing his own tail looking for the magic formula.

DH seems to know what he wants & long may it continue.

Yes again I largely agree. However We had little core strength under LJ which DH has seen and brought in. It is surprising how much stronger you can be with confidence and a clear head. Under the master tactician our team and manager had neither.

LJ had lightweight players with little protection not knowing what they were doing. Bringing back players playing with confidence domestically and internationally could have made a huge difference for him and us. Still onward! At least he didn’t turn them into garbage.
